Default ICS not working on NTLWorld?

I had posted a thread about my problem surfing the web using my second win 95 computer through my main Win 2000 computer using ICS:

http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/s...?threadid=5837

I think I have traced the connection problem to the NTLWorld dialup. I tried another dialup and ICS on the client computer connects to the website OK. But with NTLWorld, the browser just hangs at the "Web site found.." point. The two dialup settings are the same and therefore it must be something at NTLWorld.

Has NTLWorld done something to stop people using their own home network to connect to their dialup service? Can anyone with NTLWorld dialup confirm this?

Thanks

You'll need to go to your NTL Dial up icon in your network cnnections box, right click on it, and somewhere uyou should see sharing or options, or settings, one of the 3, can't remember which on exactly. Once you get there it will allow you to delect which services you want to share e.g the internet ports, e-mail, specify yourt own for things like Windows Messenger.

There was no need to change the settings when I set it up about two months ago. The settings for NTLWorld is the same as the settings for another ISP (FNN) but FNN allows my 2nd computer to connect.

Default working now

I've got ICS on my second copmuter going again through NTLWorld. It must be a bug in Win 2000. What I did was to delete the NTLWorld dialup connection and then set up a new one which works fine. Happy days again after many sleepness nights trying rebuilding windows 2000.

No sonner had I posted that the connection is now working, it failed again. This time, I really think it is a NTLWorld problem.

I set up a one.tel and got ICS to work on my client Win 95 computer. I then disconnected, change the phone and username details on thg one.tel connection. I dialled up and the client Win 95 doesn't connect to the internet. It just sits at "Web site found, waiting for reply..".

Scooby - is your's a dial up connection or are you using broadband. Is there anyone out there using NTLWorld diapup and ICS and are having the same problem as me. Help please ....

mo,

The ISP shouldn't make any diff, ICS is implimented on the client side so the ISP can't really know you are running it

are you using any sort of firewall on either of the PCs or proxies (like webwasher etc) ?

The only things I had changed were the default security setting in IE which I reset to default. It's odd that the problem only relates to the NTLWorld dialup and not to any other. I don't have any other software running.

ok - here's an idea..

goto the NTL dialup settings in IE - under

tools > internet options > connections (tab)

select the NTL dialup and see what the proxy setting is (on the PC thats directly connected to the 'net)

then make the non-directly connected PC (one behind the PC running ICS) has it's LAN settings set to..

it's possible they are set differently..

I presume that you can connect fine on the PC thats directly connected ?

Sil - I have tried connecting using a Win95 portable which worked first time but after that, the same problem. I think it must be Win 2000 related. I don't have much time to work on it so I think I will just leave it for a while. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
