Hi guys,
Have just installed a Belkin Wireless Cable/DSL Gateway router, now we can surf the internet with both computers. Have followed the instructions to share ourfiles and printers , however we cannot see each others computers. We are both using ME and are connected through the router (we think) using network cables. Can someone help to get us connected. Thanks in advance. Mike (Novice) |

Many thanks Slo, and many thanks for wanting to help.
I have set the shares for files and printers on both comptuers. I dont know how to ping the other computer on the network. The router may have a firewall, but we dont know if it is activated but there are none on the computers, we have norton internet security of both computers. When you talk of gateways is this for access to the internet if this is the case then no, we both gain access through the router by cable. I'm sorry but i do not know what you mean re the network settings. Not much help hey, but willing to learn. Thanks in advance. Tilton |

Hi Slo
Dont know if this helps but after i set up the network my wifes computer also comes up with a fault when the computer starts up and we get to the part were we enter the password. The following message comes up "IPHLPAPI.dll file cannot start, check the file to determine the problem. I took the same file from my computer and put it onto my wives to see if this would cure it. No success though. Maybe this may be causing the problem, i dont know. Regards Tilton |

I dont know how to ping the other computer on the network. ping 123.456.7.8 (replace 123.456.7.7 with the ip address of the computer you want to reach) paste the output here? IPHLPAPI.dll is the IP Helper API program and as such may well be the cause of the problem. However, something is calling that dll at startup. Follow the ME instructions here to see if it resolves the error message : http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/dll_iphlpapi.phtml I'm sorry but i do not know what you mean re the network settings. With regards to the file shares.....can you see them locally from within network neighbourhood, or whatever it is called in ME. By this I mean canyou see the local computer listed ? 'Slo |

to see what IP addr each of the PCs has you can run
ipconfig /all or just ipconfig an then ping that from the other ![]() Sil PS, if you paste the output of ipconfig /all to this thread then it will show how your network is setup

Does IPCONFIG work within ME then ?
if you can't use ipconfig then you will have to run winipcfg form the run command (Start, run) 'Slo |

Hi Slo,

Request timed out. Ping statistics for 192.168.2.48 Packets sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4, (100% loss). Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms C WINDOWS>The IPLHPAPI files seems to have resolved it self as it hasnt shown it self since i pasted my into my wifes computer. Thanks for the link have saved it in favourites. Regarding the IP addresses we receive them automatically. Finally we cant see each others computers or shared files in each others "my network places" Hope this helps, thanks again Tilton |

Slo,
Cracked it, It was the personal firewalls on our symantec internet security. I have now set a rule for them to allow access to each others computers and it is working ok and we can see each others files and printers. Many thanks for your help, just got the speed issue on the broadband to sort out in the other forum, but many thanks for your help. regards Tilton |
