Default Legacy video driver

Help! I'm trying to run Sid Meier's pirates on a lap-top but it comes up with an error about not being able to initialise DirectX. In the ReadMe file it says make sure you have DirectX 9.0c (done that - no good), try running the game in Safe mode (done that - no good) or updating video card drivers. The video card is (I think, from Device Manager) a Legacy Video Capture Device. I have tried searching on the web for this to update it but no-one seems to have it. The lap-top is about 2yrs old. I only have an internet connection for this PC so would need to download the file and Save As, if that makes any difference.
I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me find an updated driver for this.
Thank in advance,
Dunni

It is an Atlas Flyer 3400 and I'm using Win XP Pro. When I right-click on the desktop and go to settings, beneath the picture of the monitor it shows my video card is SiS 300/305/630/540/730. Does this make any sense? I tried downloading a package from the SIS website which contained updates for SIS 630/730,but the lap-top won't start on boot up, so I had to go back to the last set-up. I think I might need to be more specific. What do you think?
Thanks.

Looking around the atlas flyer was made by hi-grade you can go to there site and download drivers from there using ftp.

http://www.higrade.com/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=862

Looking at there ftp theres

340S2
340s8
340s8t
34as6

Do any of those match your model number

"Please refer to the manufacturer's label on the bottom of the notebook system to obtain the correct model number of your system" From there Site

Hope it helps

I'm impressed you found it. Nearly there? I downloaded those from the FTP site and extracted them on the lap-top. I have gone to Device Manager, right-clicked on the 'Legacy Video Capture Device' and selected 'Update Driver'.
Then I chose to install from a specific location and selected the folder. But it says that it could not find a better match than the current driver. I then tried going back a page and selecting 'Don't search I will select the driver' and go to the folder again. The only file which shows up is SIS630 (I guess this is the driver I need then) but when I select this and press ok I get 'The specified location does not contain information about your hardware'.
Any ideas about what I can do? Or should I just give up? Should I try downloading the latest driver for SIS630 from wherever I can get it? Is it possible that this video card just doesn't have a driver which works with DirectX 9.0c?
Thanks again,
Dunni

Getting lost here ..lol

Is it video ie graphics you are trying to update or a capture card?

The video drivers should be on the hi grade site

Are you sure you have a capture device installed ?

You could remove it from the device manager reboot it will try to install it again if its there.

Did you download this file or the driver only one.

Sorry if I'm confusing you Scoobs.
According to the Pirates ReadMe file and the fact that the problem is with DirectX, I need to be updating the drivers for my video card. I don't know what a capture card is, I'm afraid.
Capture device installed? Yes, it is there in Device Manager, but I thought that was the video card - I will try removing it like you say, but is it safe to do that?
I downloaded the driveronly package from the FTP site. Should I try the other file?

The video card drivers would come under display adapters, Does this capture device show under the same section or sound / vido controllers.

Best bet is to download the full install package then you will have all the drivers.

It could be the drivers are old ones and not dx9 you could get some generic ones from sis just look the device manager for the display chipset type, you said about the sis630.

**
Looks like the full package is old drivers DriverVer=07/29/2001,6.13.10.2030 so you may want to see what sis site has for the 630
