Default Possible Dialler or maybe BT Modem Protector is Broke!

Hi,

this seemed the most logical place for a possible dialer related question but if im wrong please tell me! I have had to go back to dial up for a month from broadband and obviously i was concerned about rogue dialers. I have installed bt modem protector and Stopitnow to prevent this. Stopitnow says that i have no problems yet Bt Modem protector says my modem is calling some very strange numbers indeed. For example my modem apparently dialed this number : "6018502326826832682682685415" (all one number according to bt) and then attempted to dial "38". When I check the log of stopitnow and my own modem log there is no record of these numbers being dialed and i do find the numbers that bt modem protector is saying is being dialed highly unlikely to connect to anything! My question is a, can bt modem protector give false results and b, are these numbers being dialed and not showing up on the modem log(s) can the modem log be cheated? There is no disconnection when bt says these numbers are being dialed and no sound of the modem re-dialing. should i panic or should i just not trust bt! Thanks

Hi

Have a look at this thread http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t20314.html

I think you will find that quite a number of people have experienced the same problems as you. Me thinks it is a bug in Modem Protector and you have nothing to worry about, but if you are worried then remove it. I did.

Thanks Keith - that has put my mind at rest as I thought it was highly unlikely that these numbers were being dialed but hey - you tend to trust bt!
