Hiya.

Most of the software downloads do work, or there are equivalent downloads, which ones are you trying to download and I will try and locate them. A page number or post number will help.

No worries, got it done now, after a lot of hassle, i thought windows firewall was turned off when in fact it wasn't!

Anyone know what settings i need to connect this up to talktalk? I.e VC based etc etc???

Btw, I'm a complete novice and i managed to do it, others can too!

Also, do i need to worry about any future updates etc, or can i turn them off?

Wheel Nut, it was your file that i used to unlock it, although i didn't see anything about updating it?

It's not that important about updating, i was just wondering if BT could detect the hack at all, or some other funny thing?

Thanks very much to everybody's hard efforts on here, it's just a pity some lowlifes are making money out of your hard work on egay.

Thanks again.

The automatic Firmware update is a "feature" of the BT HH Firmware and now that you are using the ST7G firmware, you will not suffer this hazard.

Ensure that you have reset the HH to factory defaults by pressing and holding the Wireless button for 20 secs and wait until thr HH re-boots. Check that when you enter the Username and Password at Step 3, you used admin and admin. Also, when you get to Step 6, remember that the Username is Administrator and leave the Password field blank.

Good luck. Please come back and report your results.

If you have changed the admin password, the update to 6.2.2.c will lock you out & you will have to reset to factory setting as described above.
6.2.2.c also disables telnet access to the hub.

Couple of firmware questions for you before I get a HH:

Is it easy to down/up grade between BT firmware versions? Eg. with 6.2.2.c can I downgrade it to 6.2.2.6 or 6.1... easily?

Also, how do these compare to the thomson firmware? 6.2 / 6.1 branch is obvious but I can't quite tell which is meant to be 6.2.H / 6.2.T etc based. Speaking of which... the unlocked (thomson) firmware in this thread, which verion is it? And if it's not 6.2.H or later, is that available for download anywhere (other than the pasworded thomson partner site)? It has a few bug fixes for caller ID that may come in handy, unless cid works fine over pstn > hub phone socket with all fw's?

Thanks for the help.

oh and... chances of getting hacked telnet access from 6.2.2.c? telnet is v. important for me.

edit: for flashing from thomson to bt fw: http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/s...&postcount=445

Hello everyone, new poster here

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Wheel Nut et al for the hard work in unlocking the BT HH. I decided to change from BT to Newnet after 1 year, so thought it was straight forward to use another isp with the HH. how wrong i was!

I phoned BT and their tech guys said i could use the BT HH with another isp.....eh..thats the advice they are giving their customers.

finally found this site and gave it a go. Now both wireless and Ethernet connections are working excellent with my new isp Newnet connected to the HH.

If anyone else is wondering how to hack the HH and change to a new isp, just do what i did and follow the instructions from Wheel Nut's post number 514 i think . I was not bothered about losing DECT functionality. Now my HH is a SpeedTouch 7G. Nice!

Good luck !

Celtic Dave,

The files and information in the zip file I posted is a compilation of the original work of others on this forum.

Welcome also to NewNet which is also my ISP and I can say that you have made an excellent choice. You will find an excellent source of experience at this site where other NewNet customers hang out. http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist...anded&sb=5&o=0

thanks for the info regarding newnet. I primarily chose them because of the monthly contract, but their prices, customer service and connectivity are all excellent. I hate being tied in to 18 month contracts!

I did have some issues with the wireless connection after i used the toolkit provided, only to realise that i had renamed the SSID to a Speedtouch ID and not the original BTHomeHub ID

yep, hats off to the other users on the forum who managed to do the unlocking. saved me a few bob anyway.

Dave

does the cli command "voice stats list" with or without the "voiceport = BT" flag work on the thomson firmware?

Pepsi_max2k, I believe I included the ST7G CLI Manual in the zip package. If it is not there, come back and I will post it.

It's not listed in the CLI manual, though there's a few other things missing that deffinately should be there (starting with a distinct lack of voice dialplan commands in the cli manual that others / datasheet have said exist) so I don't know if it's through lazy manual writing, outdated / postdated manual, or if it's actually not a functioning command.

I've also seen screenshots and comments suggesting the 7G does or has logged calls the same as other thomson routers, but I haven't managed to get a deffinate answer out of anyone so far (PSTN logs or otherwise). That command working would be a pretty good decider; and if not, it must surely have another command for call logs (maybe systemlog show xxx...) but without buying one myself or finding someone with telnet skills it's kinda hard to work out. Believe me, if I knew, or if it wasn't important, and I hadn't spent three days trying to figure it out, I wouldn't ask

EDIT: just noticed something interesting in the cli manuals... 780wl cli v1.0, written for firmware 6.1 in April 06 has the voice stats command listed. 780wl cli v2.0, written for firmware 6.2 in April 07 has NO voice stats command listed. this kinda fits in with what i've read about bt's firmware, suggesting stats were behaving differently (possibly non existent) in later 6.2 based firmwares. So could be Thomson removed voice stats capability from the 6.2 branch, and is hopefully present in 6.1 (which is the only 7G / HH thomson fw available atm). that or they're just trying to confuse people

Hi,
I am facing a weird problem. I am using Windows Vista. I have unlocked my BT hub and now it is Speedtouch 7G and have the normal/usual firmware and info. Amazingly, the upgrade wizard ends successfully. I can connect to Internet through ethernet/cable but not through wireless. I am unable to connect to its homepage through wireless connection. All the LEDs are working fine but Wireless LED is not working. Through ethernet cable I can connect/telnet, etc easily. When I try to connect to a wireless network through my Windows Vista, it hardly shows me the hub and after many refreshes it shows the speedtouch 7G hub but it does not connect and says that the router/hub has not responded appropriately. When I check the Site Monitor through Wireless WLAN card utility in Windows, it shows the hub with excellent signals (as the hub is right next to my laptop on the table). I dont know what step or configuration I am missing here. I would appreciate any help.

LEDs: They change about after flash. see http://www.homehubhacks.co.uk/index.php?n=HHH.Firmware

Original layout of LEDs with BT HH firmware left to right:

Phone :: Wireless :: Broadband :: Internet :: Data

New layout with Thomson Speedtouch firmware is now:

Wireless :: Phone :: Data :: Internet :: Broadband
as for wireless, the connection problems may be due to the type of encryption being used, i've lost count of the problems windows and wireless has given me...

Thanks, it means the wireless LED is working according to the new layout. But the connectivity through wireless is not... Its quite annoying... need help please.

Please note that I have not put any security as yet and its an unsecured wireless network. I will do this once I am able to fix this connection problem. I have tried all methods which I could but of no use...

hello again

Im no expert at this but just thought i would suggest a few things

From my previous post, i have said that i managed to hack the hub too. However, for 2 days i struggled to get the wireless working , even though i could connect to the ethernet route fine.

I managed to go to the home ip address of the HH, and change the wireless configuration details of my SSID back to its original name of BTHomeHubXXXX.

also, i found that i had not connected through the wireless channel 1. These are some of the problems i had when connecting to the router wirelessly. you should be able to use the same encyption as previously used for your HomeHub i think.

Good luck and let us know how u get on

Dave

Default Wireless with Vista

Normally I don't use wireless at all. First time I tried it was with a Toshiba laptop on XP and everything worked great first time, using WPA on the ST7G. Then about a month ago I built a new computer with Vista and a cheap generic wireless Atheros card and I couldn't get it to connect at all, I was convinced I'd got a duff card. Tried everything but could connect neither to my ST7G with proven credentials nor my BTHH which sits behind it to power the hubphone. Tried everything, was searching the shed for the axe. Hey I thought, when the going gets tough... so I gave up.
Next day the new pc went to its new home in some grotty student digs and connected first time to some other router, a 2-Wire I believe.
So it can't be the ST7G as I proved it works. Can't be the pc or Vista as that works. Only thing I can think of is the Vista security stuff / firewall stuff / network stuff doesn't like these routers, there must be something that needs configuring in Vista. Unfortunately I can't remember the error message I was getting. Good Luck

I have tried changing the SSID and much more but of no success
One more thing I want to add is, the MAC address which I see on the page when I connect the hub through IE/Firefox is slightly different from the one I see on the back of the hub itself. It is quite strange... Is there a way to change the MAC address of the hub?

Routers tend to have a number of mac addresses, one for the wan port and possibly ones for wireless and ethernet. usually only the last number/letter changes, so it's nothing to worry about.

have you tried connecting with no encryption at all?

I have never been able to get MAC address filtering working with a Speedtouch Router. Try turning this off as below:

Security

Broadcast Network Name: Yes

Allow New Devices: New stations are allowed (automatically)

Security Mode: WPA-PSK

WPA-PSK Preshared Key: xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx xxxxxx

WPA-PSK Encryption: TKIP+AES

WPA-PSK Version: WPA+WPA2

Well, the wireless wan port MAC address has been changed and yes, the last letter is changed from E to F.
I have tried with no encryption to all other options... no use..
One thing to note, I see the hub from the Wireless Configuring Utilities in Windows Vista and it shows excellent signals but when I use Connect to a Network, I dont see the hub and after many refreshes, it comes on the list and after that it does not connect...

hiya, I followed wheel_nuts instructions and managed to unlock the home hub and at one point I managed to get it connected to the internet via the ethernet but for some reason I could only get a "local connection" after that, when I tried to plug in my old modem to connect to this site to see where I'd gone wrong I had lots of trouble getting it back. I think it's as much a vista problem as anything but I'm utterly stuck now as what to do.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Reading some of these problems , im glad ive still got XP!

Another thing, kewlsaint, your wireless zero configuration and Wireless Adaptor Configuration settings are all correct under the Services.msc section. I also know i had problems with these on my XP laptop.

Apart from that , i cant see much wrong. I spent days messing around with the BTHH settings before it worked. If the settings on the HH itself , match those of your laptop wireless network, it may be a vista issue like someone mentioned before?
