Lisa290,

After you flash the HH with the ST7G firmware, the Logon ID is Administrator and just leave the Password field blank. Note that it is Administrator , not administrator.

What procedure are you using and what stage are you failing at?

Have you got the firmware etc from Rapidshare?

Which updater program are you using?

Lisa.

1) Click on the link to the Rapidshare website
2) Scroll down and click on the "FREE" Button
3) Scroll down half a page and watch the timer count dowm for 1 minute
4) Select any one of the download site radio buttons
5) Enter the displayed Security code in the box and click the "Download via xxx" button
6) You will now get a Run/ Save panel. Select Save and enter your destination Save location.

The file should now save to your Hard Disk.

Double-click on the saved file and follow the instructions in the Readme file,

been looking through all 57 pages of this thread and have found one or two posts about wireless problems, but cant seem to find any answers to my wi-fi problems.

It goes like this :-
got a hub, loaded 6.1.9.6 firmware following the posts on here - great, am now on the ISP of my choice !
However, can't connect to this thing with my wireless client however I configure the HH or (WinXP)P.C. , WEP enabled or not, Open access etc etc. I seem to get a really flaky connection, or none at all which is completely useless ! Only thing I can think of is that its a fairly old 802.11b net card, but hey this should be compatible - shouldn't it ?

Anyone any ideas or similar experience - any help would be greatly appreciated !

McMarshon,

Unless you have upgraded the firmware on a very old 802.11b card, it is unlikely to work reliably with any modern wireless base station. I have ditched quite a few and replaced them with 802.11g cards which support WPA encryption. One other caveat; the MAC address registration on many Speedtouch Routers is a bit flaky and you should try it initially with the router open to new devices.

Merry Christmas

Cool Re: Unlocking BT Home Hub **Upgrade at your own risk**

Is it possible to setup two SIP settings on BT home hub at the same time?

I can add two diffrent settings under Configure tab of telephony, but unable to add diffrent server settings under expert configure. On the Hub with speedtouch firmware, there is option to do this..so I just wondered any experts here may be able to help!

>> Is it possible to setup two SIP settings on BT home hub at the same time?

not natively, at least not with sip from two different providers (2 different betamax companies should work, for example voipcheap and voipbuster).

but you can use a website like pbxes.org to do two seperate ones, and just register the HH with pbxes and router everything through them.

>> "any isp" bt homehub to work with my tesco broadband.

what have you done so far? how was your tesco account previously setup? you probably just need to connect the cables, then use a PPPoE connection and add in your tesco bb username and password.

Default Re: Unlocking BT Home Hub

WOOHOO!
I followed the instructions from 2-3 posts and finally got it working!
[Full thanks to Iron Duke for the info about editting the firmware file in a hex editor]

I ran into problems with the updates and so to avoid problems for other people, here is my step-by-step HOWTO for flashing a BT Homehub (HH) to 6.1.9.6
  • You need to download a couple of files before you start since you need to do the flash update while offline (right click each link > Save As)
    Speedtouch Update Wizard 4.4.2.1
    6.1.6.9 firmware file
    Hexedit
  • Unzip the Speedtouch Update Wizard to somewhere on your hard drive.
  • Run the HexEdit.exe file. It will ask for a file to open, so tell it to open the ZZMYAA6.196.bli file.
  • You'll have a black window with white text. Using your arrow keys, move along the first line until you're highlighting the 5 of the second 51
    Code:
    42 4c 49 32 32 33 51 51 30

Change it to 52 by typing over it.

    42 4c 49 32 32 33 51 52 30
Now go down the page to where it says BANT-7 on the right (line 130)
    Code:
    9c f3 ab f8 08 06 42 41 4e 54 2d 37

Change it to 5a by typing over it.

    9c f3 ab f8 08 06 42 41 4e 54 2d 5a
Click on "File" and choose "Save As". Save the file somewhere on your hard drive, but change the .bli on the end to .bin
  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection -(rightclick)- Properties
  • Click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" to highlight it, then click on the "Properties" button.
  • Click on the "Use the following IP address" option and enter the following in the boxes.
    Code:
    IP address: 192.168.1.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254
    Click "OK" then "OK".
  • Connect the HH to your desktop PC with the yellow ended CAT5 cable.
  • Plug in the power of the HH.
  • Go to the folder you unzipped the Speedtouch Update Wizard to.
  • Doubleclick on upgradeST.exe
  • Click on "Next"
  • Let the wizard detect your HH. When you click on "Next" you will be asked for the login of the router.
    Login: admin
    Pass: admin
  • Click on the "Have Disk" button, and find the ZZMYAA6.196.bin file that you created earlier. That's the .bin file, NOT the .bli file.
You'll know if you editted it correctly earlier because it will say 6.1.6.9 for the version, and 2.0.0 for the config. If it doesn't say those figures, you need to go back and re-edit the file in HexEdit as you've got something slightly wrong somewhere.
  • Click "Next".
  • This is your final chance to chicken out before you start the update. If you're ready, click "Next" and let the update run.
  • If all goes well, you will see the firmware being uploaded to the router and then being installed on the router.
  • Ignore the error message at the end because the wizard is lying to you.
  • Close the wizard.
  • Go to Start > Run ... and type telnet 192.168.1.254 then click "OK".
  • Login using the same login details as before...
    Login: admin
    Pass: admin
  • Look at the text, and if you see 'Speedtouch 7G' and 6.1.6.9 in the top right corner then you have SUCCESSFULLY updated the firmware of your HH and can now proudly call it a 7G.
  • Type exit to leave telnet.
  • Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection -(rightclick)- Properties
  • Click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" to highlight it, then click on the "Properties" button.
  • Click on the "Obtain an IP address automatically" option and then click "OK" and "OK" again.
  • Plug in the phone line into the 'broadband' socket of the router.
  • Open your browser and type in http://192.168.1.254
    Login: admin
    Pass: admin
  • Click on Speedtouch on the blue menu on the left.
  • Click on the "Set Up" link under 'Pick a task...'
  • Click the "Next" button on the popup window
  • Select Routed PPP then click "Next"
  • Select 0.38 from the list for VPI/VCI
  • Select PPP over ATM (PPPoA) for 'Connection Type'
  • Enter the username and password for your ISP broadband login. Click "Next"

I think it is self-explanatory from that point on. That basically means that you've got Internet capability.

Have a look around the menus. You've got far more options available to you.
Oh yeah, I got my wifi working on WPA-PSK without the slightest problem.
I don't have a hub phone so I can't comment about that side of things.

Have fun boys and girls!

Reinvol111,

If the "upgrade" to the ST7G Firmware has completed, you will need to log in with UserID: Administrator (not administrator or admin) and leave the Password field blank. This should then display the Speedtouch 7G panel.

The problem is that the upgrade will not install, since it stops at 16% and gives me an error message saying that the authentication has failed and that I should restart the upgrade program.

Restarting the upgrade program and subsequently re-entering the username and pssw does not resolve the problem.

What is the current level of the BT HH Firmware? If it is higher than V6.2.2.6 then you need to downgrade it to V 6.2.2.6 and then do the conversion to ST7G V6.1.9.6.

Also, are you sure that you have patched the firmware file correctly? See my post on page 35 of this thread which will give you a complete kit to do the Flash.

Hi, guys. i got a homehub yesturday, and tryied your methods, it seemed to get stuck at 16% percent when loading the update, so i started to take matters into my own hands, eventually i used the BT Hubehub fireware restore from BT openworld website, but i renamed wheel nut's firmware. to the same filename as the BT one that came in the restorer. and restored. and it loaded the speedtouch firmware fine.. so ive got it all on!... now trying to get my ISP set up.. im on 02 broadband. and the VPI/VCI is 0/101, there is no option to select this from the Speedtouch menu it just has a dropdown menu... and it lists all common settings. also i dont know whever my O2 Broadband uses PPPoA or PPPoE... any pointers would be great. thanks... if anyone is having trouble getting the firmware on. try doing what i just said. works a treat.

I know PPPoE = over ethernet cable and at a guess tho I am not sure I would say PPPoA would = over adapter but not sure about that, hope that helps in some kind of way thanks lisa

Hi, guys. i got a homehub yesturday, and tryied your methods, it seemed to get stuck at 16% percent when loading the update, so i started to take matters into my own hands, eventually i used the BT Hubehub fireware restore from BT openworld website, but i renamed wheel nut's firmware. to the same filename as the BT one that came in the restorer. and restored. and it loaded the speedtouch firmware fine.. so ive got it all on!... now trying to get my ISP set up.. im on 02 broadband. and the VPI/VCI is 0/101, there is no option to select this from the Speedtouch menu it just has a dropdown menu... and it lists all common settings. also i dont know whever my O2 Broadband uses PPPoA or PPPoE... any pointers would be great. thanks... if anyone is having trouble getting the firmware on. try doing what i just said. works a treat.
