Question Re: Unlocking BT Home Hub **Upgrade at your own risk**

What is the current level of the BT HH Firmware? If it is higher than V6.2.2.6 then you need to downgrade it to V 6.2.2.6 and then do the conversion to ST7G V6.1.9.6.

Also, are you sure that you have patched the firmware file correctly? See my post on page 35 of this thread which will give you a complete kit to do the Flash.

The Router address is still 192.168.1.254 but Userid is now Administrator and leave Password blank.

You could try resetting the Router by pressing and holding the Wireless button in for 20 secs.

Outlook tried to use the old modem, i.e. dialling for a connection. I changed the connection setting to 'never dial for a connection' in the Explorer tool settings, but it still dialled for a connection. Than I rebooted the PC and after this, I could not access the modem via the above IP. It was late and I neglected the family for some hours so I need to try it again, but I think I am very close.
By the way I used IE7 for changing the Firmware and after two attempts it seems to work fine.

And..... just tried the HUB at a computer at work and we can access it via the old IP address and all the Speedtouch Firmware is there and it looks good. Still don't know why Outlook is playing up. I will try tonight.

And another question: The HUB now shows Firmware version 6.1.9.6 and not 6.1.6.9. Is this just a typing error? will it cause a problem?

Disregard my last post - the router seems to have sorted itself out and now works flawlessly.

Thanks for the helpful thread!

ok i have been reading with some interest some of the post here and found a lot of info on how to get my bt hub(adsl) to work with virgin media!(ethernet conection)dsl .
my virgine media ethernet connection is connected to a linksys ertherfast cable/dsl router with 4 port switch, then with a crossed over patch cable
(why a crossed over it was all i had to hand at the time but it works so leave it in!)
from port 1 on the linksys to ethernet 1 on my bt home hub wireless router, plus this computer on ethernet port 2 on the bt hub.
i also have three other computers connected to the linksys router,
now with this setup all the computers can see each other including a wireless laptop connected to the bt hub with no problems including internet access.

my only problem is that the bt hub setting in advanced, config, internet,. keeps dropping out i just put in my email address and password instead of the default btinternet@xxxxx to restore the connection. my question:-
is reflashing the hub with the thomson g7 software the only way of doing this(to make virgine media the default) as all of the other setting work fine or will reflashing make more problems than its worth ?. also i have just pluged in my usb drive into the bt hub and it can be seen across the whole network! will have to try the printer next!

@oldboydave

Yes to unlock the hub (to use its dsl modem) you need to flash the Thomson firmware. However you will then lose the samba (file) server so you cannot use it to share the usb drive. If you want to use this feature (or the VOIP client) then you will need to continue using the hub bridged to another modem/router.

FYI, the homehub only supports simple class 'printer' usb printers so no multifunction or all-in-on type printers will work. Also you cannot add a usb-hub to have multiple devices connected to the usb port.

No, That is a function of the Two Wire 2700HGV Router with modified Firmware which would also make it illegal to operate in the UK.

Wak111,

Speedtouch/ Configuration Panel; Click Configure and follow the wizard. It will ask you to enter your BT UserID and Password.

Question Re: Unlocking BT Home Hub - BT Broadband Talk

Guys anyone know what I have wrong.

I want to use the HH as a wireless access point (not intersted in using the modem) and would also like to keep the BT Broadband Talk working. I have tested the hub on the ADSL and configured the BT Talk correctly, regsiters fine when connected to the ADSL. I have HH running with version 6.1.1.M.

Have applied the HomeHubHacks "GetRoot", "DisableBTUpdate" and "RouteInternally" hacks. Then I have placed the HH on the same subnet behind my main 3rd party router. Tracerouting out from the HH to an address on the internet works fine so the "RouteInternally" is doing its job.

However I can not get the BT Broadband Talk to register......

I suspect it may be ports on my main 3rd party router (if so which ones) or have I missed something on the HH. Or can it not be done.

Thanks to all the tips you guys are posting, have learned so much about the HH from these.

Brian
