To use a home hub as a wireless access point and switch, all you need do is to disable dhcp on the lan setting of the home hub.

If you want to be able to manage the home hub you may have to change the lan IP address of the home hub. Just make sure it has a unique address on the same subnet as your router.

So if you connect another routers LAN port or a switch etc it will all get bridged together.

Further the HH supports wireless bridging (WDS) where two devices are connected together using the wireless rather than an eherenet cable.

After 3 days of trying thanks to various postings on the internet (My thanks are due to Unlokia and others who have taken their time to post their findings), I have succeeded in:

- Unlocking my router from BT (my previous ISP)

- Getting it to work on the TalkTalk network (my new ISP)

- Upgrading the power to be capable 1-10 as opposed to 1-4 previously

The process went like this.

Unlokia has posted this http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t22658.html

But there are some tricks you need to do as well:

Once you have downloaded the software

The settings on my BT router would not allow me to make changes to the configuration. If you make the changes and instead of pressing “save” put this into the browser address window:

javascript:document.pagepost.submit()

Then press return and the page will be saved.

Now you can set up the TalkTalk settings which are WRONG if you look on the TalkTalk website. What you need is:

VPI =0

VCI=38

Manually Configure DNS Server

Primary address 62.24.199.13

Secondary address 62.24.299.23

Domain name Leave blank

Encapsulation PPPoA

Username YourPhonenumber@talktalk.net

Password Given to you in your Welcome booklet

Force Upstream MTU 1400

ATM Encapsulation Routed VCMUX

Good Luck

Well I must just say that deep within the 100's of messages there is all the info' and more. To start the toungs flapping I thought I would mention that I have now been able to get 4 of these homehubs setup and working on the same network as seperate SIP extensions on my PBX and also working as wifi extenders, which gives them the neet feature of being WiFi SIP points with chargers with no wires apart fom the 9volts. All still running original BT firmware so the phone and bits work as normal and very clear. Very impressed. So now I have a personal PBX in the house and strong WiFi throughout to the end of the garden. If only the Phone was the key for the SIP allocation, but allas it doesn't. To be honest if cant see why they are so cheep on our favorite auction site. Madness. People just have no sence of value anymore.. I am curious to know if anyone has discovered the propper admin or root password access for the newer 6.2.6e versions. Has anyone got any info on the dect phone for pushing images and messages to from a remote source ?? I need to find out if I can hook the unused line wire to the phone socket on a filter and seeing if it will give me PSTN dialout without interfering with the normal adsl connection. Humm so many options. I am just writing a little application for PC's to make the config of these a little easier. Seem a shame that no one has done one yet. Ohh welll...

Akhtar, THIS is the correct forum for the BT Home hub .... the white box in Apple style with the optional Handset. The post on this page by KiamaraKid refers to the BT Business Hub and does not belong in this forum.

Is there anyway to get a HH onto talktalk with a firmware that supports DMT Modem Tool, 6.1.9.6 does not support DMT, it needs to be an older version. HH firmware 6.1.1R works with DMT ok but of course we cannot get authenticated PPoA with this firmware. The HH seems to have the best modem of all my boxes but I cannot use it on talktalk with DMT Tool, any solutions?

Thanks.

hey there woodpecker,
Do you know if any version of the homehub is supported by DMT.?

If I can get a version working then it would be simple to establish why the later versions are not supported.
Perhaps a small application to FILTER the traffic could make the later version firmware workable with DMT.

I have many existing applications that I can modify to work as a softwre bridge for telnet traffic.
I am guessing that it is something to do with the return strings of the modem but that is a total guess as I have no idea !! :-)

Any clues anyone?

;-)

Hi Hiddenvision,

HH 6.1.1R works very well with DMT, the problem with the 7G 6.1.9.6 firmware is that the command "debug exec cmd=tdsl getData all" has been blocked by Thomson. Even if you flush the user profiles and create a new root or SuperUser profile there is no way get the modem to run this command, or not that can anyone can find. People have done a lot of digging but no one has managed to get the correct privelidge to run the command. There is some more info in this thread:-

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...m?t=813746&p=1

I find the HH modem is superb on my line, rock solid 6mbps+ on a 3.5km line with SNRM tweaking, none of my other modems come close, with BT firmware it will run DMT and show all the line stats but of course no access to my ISP, with 6.1.9.6 access to my ISP but no DMT line stats, Arhhhh!

Any solution would be welcome.

Default Virgin Hub and ISP, BT Hub and BT 1010 phone with a different VoIP provider

Hi all and thank you for the info previously provided. I swiched to Virgin broadband but I wanted to keep the bt phone hub 1010 working. After some info and trials I managed to have the phone working perfectly with voipdiscount (and I believe any sip voip provider) both making and receiving calls. The BT HH works as a WIFI repeater as well and if you are patient enough and have the proper hardware (DG DG834Gv3) you can even use WDS (Wireless Distribution System) but I didn't try that.
Please, let me know if it worked for you

First, downgrade your phone to 6.11M.
I had a few problems to do that until I downloaded the upgrade software from BT (h**p://www.btopenworld.com/broadband/adhoc_pages/hub_firmware.html).
I decompressed the file (h**p://www.btopenworld.com/broadband/adhoc_pages/hub_firmware.html) and I replaced the file ZZK3BK6[1].26E.bli with the downgraded BT-HUB-6.11M.bin (file inside H**p://static.btopenworld.com/broadband/adhoc_pages/drivers/hub_firmware.zip) .
The files are at the excelent page http://www.homehubhacks.co.uk/index....Misc.Downloads
I downgraded running StartBTrecovery. I used a cable networked computer for this (do not try with wifi connection). If you run into password trouble, try to reset the hub and use the original password.

Going superuser (from www.HomeHubHacks.co.uk)
Go to the Home Hub webpage (normally 192.168.1.254) and click on the ‘Advanced’ button. Click on the ‘Continue to advanced’ button after reading the warning.
Click the ‘Switch to another user’ link, and then enter admin/admin as the username/password combination.
Click on the ‘Configuration’ link
Click on the ‘Save or Restore Configuration’ link
Click the ‘Backup Configuration Now’ button. This will prompt you to save a user.ini file somewhere on your computer. Save it somewhere where you will be able to find it.
Open the user.ini file in your favorite text editor (notepad etc).
Search for the section called ‘mlpuser.ini’. In here there should be a line similar to:
add name=admin password=_CYP_12345678901234 role=Administrator hash2=12345678901234
Change the ‘role=Administrator’ part of the line to ‘role=SuperUser’ and save the file. I have a feeling that case IS important.
Use your web browser to restore the configuration to the router (it’s on the same page as the backup button).

Making BT hub a servant ...
Make sure the IP and subnetwork match. I found complicated to change my BT home hub so I changed the Virgin Netgear IP(192.168.1.1) and submask range to 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.250. The home hub is 192.168.1.253 (samba) and 192.168.1.254 (hub).
Install the Virgin hub or whatever provider you are now as the DNS and DHCP server but leave the BT HH disconnected for now. Make the submask modification so the DHCP does not provide the IPs that will be used by the BT HH. check service by ping 192.168.1.1 and make sure internet and network are up and running
Disconnect your computer network cable from hub and connect to BT hub. go to setup at 192.168.1.254 and disable DHCP .
Connect BT HH to Virgin hub and computer to virgin hub. They seems to prefer ETH 1 to talk to each other
Ping 192.168.1.254 and check if all is working.

Configuring VoIP
Change the information bellow as needed
go to console (C:/)
telnet 192.168.1.254
enter password (admin admin)
Enter each line bellow at the prompt {admin}=>
voice sip config primproxyaddr=sip.voipdiscount.com
:voice sip config primregaddr=sip.voipdiscount.com
:voice sip config notifier_addr=sip.voipdiscount.com
voice profile add
SIP_URI = sip_username
[username] = sip_username
[password] = ********
Please retype password for verification.
[password] = ********
[displayname] = voipdiscount
voiceport = COMMON
[abbr] =
:voice profile add SIP_URI=sip_username username=sip_username
password=******** displayname=voipdiscount voiceport=COMMON

:ip rtadd dst=0.0.0.0 gateway=192.168.1.1 intf=LocalNetwork
:dns client dnsadd addr=192.168.1.1
:dns server config WANDownSpoofing=disabled
:dns server route add dns=192.168.1.1 intf=LocalNetwork
:voice config intf=LocalNetwork
:system config defaultconnection=LocalNetwork
:config save filename=user
:config save filename=user

Making the phone ring service
If your VoIP has a phone number to ring back (Ex:05...) then you need to redirect incoming calls to the BT hub from the Virgin hub.
Submit the router's address in an Internet browser. (Ex:192.168.0.1)
Enter the router's username and password
From the main menu, click Security > Rules
Click Add for inbound traffic
Select the Service. The services the router knows about are listed in the drop down. If the service you want is not listed, add a service for incoming calls for the specific port that you need, in my case 5060
Select the Action, for example ALLOW always
For Send to LAN Server, enter the IP address of the local server, in my case the BT Hub @ 192.168.1.254
Click Apply.

Voila
Your hub should be making and receiving VoIP calls by now

Some notes:
I disabled firewall on the IP phone.
I named the BT hub and the Virgin hub with different SSID (make note of them and avoid using the default)
I enabled WPA2-PSK on both, the BT hub and the Virgin hub.
I disabled SSID broadcast on both, the BT hub and the Virgin hub.
You can further increase security by limiting the access to known MAC addresses

That's interesting, what username and password do you use in DMT? I can't get it to work with any admin, root, or SuperUser role. Do the graphs all display properly?

Just use the root/superuser login/password you use to access the router pages. The graphs don't work but the commands do, and you can use it to force down your snrm and increase line speed. I'm on TalkTalk too. Note that I'm on the ZZN0AA6 variant of 6.1.9.6, I haven't tried it with the other one.

I've gone back to my Netgear DG834N at the moment, this will hold sync at 0.9dB SNRM giving me a stable 7Mbps sync on 3.5km line which is similar to the HH anyway.

Hi first of all many thanks to all on this thread as I have managed to get my hh to:

Product Name: SpeedTouch 7G
Serial Number: CP0729FH2JV
Software Release: 6.1.9.6
Software Variant: AA
Boot Loader Version: 2.0.5
Product Code: 36143610
Board Name: BANT-Z.
I can now connect to talktalk ok, But I would like to set it up to use a wireless key to encrypt as it is open and there isn't a link to security in the front page of the hub. Sorry if I seem to be daft but can anyone help me with this.
cheers
