I just wanted to say a BIG thanks to jarviser and all those who contributed to putting a complete answer to this maze at: http://www.jarviser.co.uk/jarviser/hubunlocking.html

I did the downgrade and then the retrofit as was outlined. It took a while but I got it done and I am now a happy man with my network back and online.

Can't sing your praises enough. The only (being finiky here) heads up that might have helped me was to say on that page how I could check the version number of the firmware (it does say further down AFTER you do the downgrade) because obvious and all as it was I didn't know how to see this. Been a while since I used the interface for BT anyway and you have to scroll down to see this.
But hey - great stuff! I have an old hub that went down through too many resets and I might try and fix that too and pass it on.

BIIIIIIIIIIIG thanks again.

That link was also posted in the Unlocking section the Home Hub Wikipedia page but somebody (or is that someBT) removed it.

It was replaced by a bland statement that GPL linux code is available on the BT site. Or rather an approximation of what is in the hub's compiled code. At least they now acknowledge they do have an obligation to publish.

It's added now in the links until somebt removes it again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BT_Home_Hub

...and I added a reference to my article on where to see the firmware version, though that was supposed to be the easy part!

Default VOIP on unlocked Home HUB

Hi,

first of all thanks for detailed guide to unlock my HH.
i have successfully loaded ver 6.1.6.9
but i am facing a problem that i could not use it for VOIP. the ph port on back is giving access to my landline. even if enable telephony on router or not it give me my land line on it.
so is there any way i could use this router for VOIP cz the only reason i unlocked it was to able to use it for VOIP otherwise my sky router was working perfectly.
if not i think atleas i should be able to use it as secondry router and just use its VOIP functionality.
any help in this regard would be much appreciated.

thanks

Ali

To use the voip you need to put back the bt firmware and use it as a bridge with you sky router. Details are in this thread.

Default Re: Unlocking BT Home Hub **Upgrade at your own risk**

I must say this thread is an absolute gold mine. I have now managed to unlock my HH back to it's Speedtouch 7G roots so I'm very pleased.

But I have a problem. I can't get Internet access

I've moved into a new house with my girlfriend and have inherited her Orange/Wanadoo USB ADSL modem. I want to replace the wired modem with the wireless Speedtouch 7GHH.

I can manage the HH wired (Ethernet) or wirelessly (wifi) through IE7 so I'm proven connection to the 7G. I've added the Orange/Wanadoo logon credentials into the 7G but I think I've got a network configuration problem as networking has never been my strong point.

When I'm connected through the Orange-supplied ADSL modem my IPCONFIG looks like this:

PPP adapter Wanadoo Broadband:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface

Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-XX-XX

Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 91.108.137.148

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 91.108.137.148

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 193.36.79.100

193.36.79.101
When I'm trying to connect wirelessly:

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : HP WLAN 802.11b/g W400

Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-12-79-3E-XX-XX

Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254
I can see the network addresses are different in the two samples quoted above, so is it just a case of stipulating a network address for the wifi that matches that on the PPP adapter or maybe disabling DHCP on the 7G so I get an address from the Orange/Wanadoo server? Or something else?

Getting the wireless access sorted will make a huge difference so I'm hoping members can help me out here. If you need any further information then let me know and I'll post it.

Thumbs up Re: Unlocking BT Home Hub **Upgrade at your own risk**

Hi guys, just wanted to say thanks to everyone whose hard work has made this possible. I now have my GF's redundant hub connected to my Tiscali service so she can connect her laptop in my flat
I need to work out why I couldn't share folders on my PC across the new network, I'm assuming that I had a blond moment when I tried it the other night...
What I'd really like to work out though is how to enable IPP on the Speedtouch firmware - it seems daft for it to be on the hub's page but not have an option to enable it

Cheers,
Loz

@ aakbar
Try accessing the hub on its other private address http://10.0.0.138 you can then add the 192 address

Or factory reset, Hold the reset button until the hub restarts and resets its settings. You will then have to redo all your settings

Hello everyone,

I am having some hub misery. I have Tiscali broadband and have spent all evening trying to hook it up to a ver. 1.0 home hub which was the boyf's. I've follwed carefully the flashing instructions, but I always come unstuck when I run the Speetouch Updater as it just isn't detecting the hub whatsoever, despite everything being connnected and the little wireless icon being lit, and flashing occasionally. When the LAN is enabled (for which I changed the TCP settings) the data icon acts the same. I deactivated my firewall and antivirus and then tried the reset and pulling the plug trick, but BT's system recovery doesn't detect it either. Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks,

Michelle

I have unlocked my BT Home Hub with SpeedTouch as instructed on page 11 and it's working fine to access the internet on my PC via the Ethernet cable. Now I'm trying to access the net through the Home Hub on my MacBook via wireless. The MacBook detects the wireless but doesn't connect to the net. Can anyone help?

Have suched back and forth on previous posts but can't find the answer...

Like the previous poster, you are probably not getting any help here because you have not given enough details about your problem.anybody attempting to help you will need to know some basic information like:

Have you set up the HH as a DHCP Server?

Have you set up the Macbook to receive an IP Address automatically?

What Wireless security are you using?

Have you configured the Wireless network on the HH?

Come back with some details and someone will help you here.

Also, standard wireless debugging;
Does it work wired,
Does it work with encryption (WEP/WPA) disabled,
Does changing the channel to 1,6,11 or 13 on the router fix the problem? (esp. if you have wireless AV senders or other wireless networks close by)

HI, I've been browsing through this thread with interest. Thanks to people here, I think I now have enough information to unlock a Home Hub.

But, before I attempt this, I'd just like to clarify something...

My parents have just given me their unused BT Home Hub 2.0. Trouble is, most of the information in this thread & the info available here & here only applies to the v1.0.

I'd love to unlock the thing and use it with ADSL24, but has anyone successfully tried this upgrade with the new black HH v2.0?

Or is it completely new internally rather than the same rebranded model with a shinier case & a few more ports?

Ceefax, The ST7G Firmware does NOT work with the HH V1.5 or 2.0. The only version with which the procedure works is the original V1.0.

Zmariner, TheHub Phone does not work with the ST7G Firmware.

So, assuming the HH v2.0 (& v1.5) is not just a re-branded Speedtouch 7G, has anybody got any ideas what it is?

I believe that the HH v2.0 has only been out for about a month, so I do hope someone can find a way of unlocking it with the relevant firmware. I'd hate to think it wasn't possible.

Slightly off topic so apologies, I am trying to get into the ARP table settings of my Home Hub v1.5 running firmware 6.2.6.H so i can fix a static entry for my PS3 to stop ARP requests being sent. Does anyone know how to enter the ARP settings as Telnet has been removed?

Thanks
