OK, well you have it now, may as well experiment if you have a BT line based IPC. It will not take Speedtouch but it will take BT 6.2.2.6 although grudgingly. (Ignore the wierd lights, and the reset function reverts to the WA button)
Try the downgrade and lock to 6.2.2.6, log on with the Root user that you will have created. Backup the config file (user.ini) in the System sectyion of the menu. Edit it as below, and then it can be restored. In the user.ini look for the ppp.ini section whete you will find [ ppp.ini ] ifadd intf=Internet rtadd intf=Internet dst=0.0.0.0/0 src=0.0.0.0/0 metric=10 ifconfig intf=Internet dest=atm_Internet accomp=enabled mru=1500 doddelay=120 dnsmetric=10 ifconfig intf=Internet user=bthomehub@btbroadband.com status=enabled Try changing the username to suit your IPC, try adding a password=xxxxx I know someone who is on Be that simply deleted all the words inside the ppp.ini section and it worked. If you can get it working let the forum know and I can add it to my 6.2.2.6 web page too. |

Right, so far i have managed to downgrade to 6.2.2.6.
I am a bit of a novice at all of this, so where about do i find the user.ini file? |

You need to create the root user (in my article it's at section titled "Then Lock" and in that example root user name and root password are "jarvis3r") Then log onto the bthomehub.home system as that root user instead of admin. Using the root user gives some additional options in the System part of the advanced menu such as Backup Config and Restore Config. When you backup the config file it is saved on your PC as user.ini which can be opened using Notepad. When you have changed it you Restore it into the hub. The original ppp.ini looks like this. [ ppp.ini ] ifadd intf=Internet rtadd intf=Internet dst=0.0.0.0/0 src=0.0.0.0/0 metric=10 ifconfig intf=Internet dest=atm_Internet accomp=enabled mru=1500 savepwd=disabled doddelay=120 dnsmetric=10 Last edited by lozza69er; 13-November-2008 at 19:29. |

Well, now you start to hack away at the file til you get something that will connect to your ISP. If you have a config file from your Virgin router you may find something that will replace the stuff in the hub.
First copy the user.ini to a backup copy in another folder. In that ppp.ini section there should be the next line of ifconfig intf=Internet user=bthomehub@btbroadband.com status=enabled (If not do a ctrl-F and search for "@btbroadband.com" it must be in there somewhere) Try changing the user name to the one that your IPC is expecting. Did you get any instructions with your Virgin router? Try adding a password= xxxxxxx clause Try deleting the line altogether. Try deleting all the lines in the ppp.ini After each change restore the user.ini to the hub and try to connect to your IPC. I don't know what will work, if anything, probably nobody else does outside of BT. That's why it's called hacking - you just hack away til you find something that works. Use Google to its fullest at all times. |

That is all that is under ppp.ini.
I have searched for "@btbroadband.com", but there is nothing there. [ ppp.ini ] ifadd intf=Internet rtadd intf=Internet dst=0.0.0.0/0 src=0.0.0.0/0 metric=10 ifconfig intf=Internet dest=atm_Internet accomp=enabled mru=1500 savepwd=disabled doddelay=120 dnsmetric=10 I have tried deleting all that is under ppp.ini, but it comes back with "invalid connection name" |

I acquired a v1.0 home hum from my parents when BT kindly send them a newer replacement. I have been onto the www.Jarviser.co.uk website and read/followed the instructions on unlocking the hub which was on v6.2.2.6. I then managed to downgrade the hub with new firmware from a link on the jarviser guide and now its v6.1.9.15 ? ? (or something, I am at work at the mo and cant remember). Anyway that isnt the important thing, I changed the ISP details, put my password in and connection type and hay presto I can connect to the internet using the BT Home Hub rather than my previous hub.
My questions are these .... should I now upgrade to a newer version of the firmware and what would be the advantage Would you recommend enabling the wireless option if I'm not going to use Voip. I do have some ethernet network points dotted around the house but wireless would mean fewer cables so what do you think? Pete |

My recommendation is that if you now have Speedtouch 6.1.9.6 and it works, don't begger about with it. The chances are that the upgrade functions in the firmware will not work, or will work but screw it. The wifi works fine on that version. Change to WPA-PSK in the security if your PC's support it or even if you don't use it, because someone in a car outside your house with a netbook could use it to download gawd knows what in your name, and WEP is hackable in 10 minutes.

Right, I got my home hub and hub phone today and flashed it with 7g firmware and got it working with virgin media ADSL but the hub phone don’t work. So I downloaded the config file anyway.
So I flashed it back with BT firmware v6.2.2.6 and downloaded and edit the config file and added the lines in the ppp.ini line and uploaded and it didn’t work. So I re-flashed it with 7g firmware and uploaded the BT config file to the 7g firmware, it locked me but the internet worked with no problems. So there much be more in the config file that is stopping the settings working. I even tried editing the config file from the 7g with the bt config trying to see if I can get the hub phone working.

Right i am on a new mission now. Just setup my bt hub as a repeater, just wondering why WPA cannot be used when using the hub as a repeater.
Is there any way around this? |

Right i am on a new mission now. Just setup my bt hub as a repeater, just wondering why WPA cannot be used when using the hub as a repeater. Probably that's the reason that Hub V2.0 dropped WDS repeating in favour of MIMO and draft-n to get the range, and now defaults to WPA2 as the favoured encryption. There's a better explanation here |

I've googled and googled but I can't work this out... First I tried to enable IPP and use the unlocked hub as a print server via its USB port, I failed. So I have acquired a print server and tried connecting it to ethernet port 2, however the hub apparently is not recognising that anything is connected to the second port
![]() Has anyone any advice for me on either of these methods? It's starting to make my brain hurt... Loz |

The original Speedtouch box had a USB socket to connect to a PC's USB to connect to the broadband, but did not AFAIK have an auxiliary USB-A socket like the home hub. Therefore it's very unlikely that the Speedtouch firmware has software to support the home hub's USB-A socket. It certainly does not assign an IP address of 192.168.1.253 like the HH firmware does. Therefore you only have the two Ethernet sockets to work with.
Ensure that DHCP is enabled (in Speedtouch menu, Home Network, Interfaces, click on blue underlined Local Network, then if necessary click on Configure blue underlined at top of page, ) Alternatively set a fixed IP in the Print Server of 192.168.1.200 subnet 255.255.255.0 let us know if either worked. |

The setting you need to change to Route the traffic Via the ETH port is Sorry to bring this up again, but I didn't manage to get my SIP working at the remote end. Just to point out, and I hope I don't bring things off topic, I'm using two Speedtouch 716WLs, rather than HHs. I have the WDS working fine (even have my Nintendo Wii connected to the remote slave unit, fired up internet first time). I tried running in the commands above (logged in as "Administrator", which I presume is root), but no SIP action/registration. My setup is: INTERNET---DSL---->716WL(MASTER)<----WIFI---->716WL(SLAVE)------>PC via LAN. Master IP is 192.168.1.254, slave is 192.168.1.250. If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated. Well done everyone for all the good work. |

Wheelnut's kit in this article does not need any editing. Check it out. There may be something you have missed. That article condenses the best bits of this thread and should work on any V1 hub.
If you are not on admin / admin then you are not using a fully Reset version of 6.2.2.6 as base. Could be your problem. |

For voice over LAN, try this: telnet to the hub, go to voice, config and change intf to LAN. Thank you for the advice, can you please give command details for this |

Not sure what 6.2.w.1 is (is that BT or Speedtouch?), or where you are starting from, or what you are trying to do.
What hub do you have? Are you trying to unlock for another ISP? Are you trying to get VOIP working on another ISP or BT? Is the hub connected to the ADLS or is it a slave/repeater? |

Hi
I have managed to get my V1 homehub running with the Speedtouch software, and am trying to get it to work on my ISP, which is Orange (now named Online) in The Netherlands. I downloaded the user.ini file from my original ISP provided Speedtouch 516, and uploaded it into the Homehub but it refuses to authenticate my internet connection, although the DSL does show a green tick. If I configure it via the setup wizard, it will only work in bridge mode (because the other options demand a username and password). I'm lost now, can anyone help me please? I found these details here : http://online.gebruikers.eu/faq.php?cat_id=10 if it helps: Subscription ADSL Basic Connectionprotocol PPPoA (RFC2364) VC-MUX VPI / VCI 8 / 48 Primary DNS server: 194.134.5.55 Secondary DNS server: 194.134.5.5 ADSL modulatie: G.992.1 - G.DMT I'll attach the ini file from my orange modem in case that also helps someone to help me. Thanks. |

May take you up on that, though I can see there being a lot of revisions to start with as I will be incorporating other peoples ideas. I'll spend the next week (when I get spare time) working on it then will post a progress update on here. Just want to know if you completed your project, i need to have mine connected behind my Netgear with VOIP enabled Thanks A lott
