ICSTIS has fined a Swiss telco £50,000 for installing premium rate diallers for an Internet-based adult service onto the PCs of British members of the public, without their knowledge. DDD Com AG was also barred from offering premium rate services in the UK for six months and to offer redress to all complainants. Opera Telecom supplied the premium rate number used by DDD Com AG.

If you do have to pay the bill, can you get your money back?

ICSTIS cannot require companies responsible for the service (the service providers)
to give refunds. To try to obtain a refund you should write to the service provider,
enclosing a copy of your telephone bill and explaining who was responsible for the
Internet calls and whether you, as the bill payer, were aware of the calls being made.

This phone number is in Brasil. The Republic of Suriname does not have a Consul in Rio de Janeiro, so if someone claims to be the Consul he must be a liar. Right?
