Calls to Mobiles abroad

Does anyone know of a cheap way to call mobile phones in Australia and The Canary Islands, which is where my granddaughters are at present?

They both have local mobiles.

Although I don't have any actual help for you I do recall that some of the 'prefix' services available offer cheap international rates, even to mobile phones.

I always use SuperLine for my foreign calls. I heard about it years ago on The Scream when The Scream was still in short trousers.

For mobiles add 13p per minute to the normal rates.

So for the two you mentioned SuperLine are:
Australia 4p/min (+13)
Canaries 8p/min (+13).

Compare with OneTel:
Australia 4p/min (+21)
Canaries 10p/min (+18).


I did a load of comparisons about 18 months ago (although not for ringing mobiles) and they couldn't be beaten. I suppose I ought to check periodically, but I can't be bothered as I don't make too many foreign calls.

I'm using Telediscount for calls to Australia, 4p/min peak, 2p/min off-peak, 1p/min weekends. 15p/min to mobiles.

If you have one or two overseas mobile numbers you call regularly, it's worth setting up numbers at http://www.yac.com/yacHomePage.jsp - they will allow you to forward to 22 countries including Australia. The 07092 (personal) numbers cost 30p peak, 20p eves, and 10p weekend. The latter is likwely to be cheaper than any other service including Telediscount or indirect-access service such as Superline.
