There should be a new (freeware) version of AdAware out in a week or two - see my link in the AdAware Updates thread.

Default Updates

The point I am trying to put across is a security program is only as good as its updates. To simply stop updating for months and say nothing till a security forum ,public condems the product and forces a response from Lavasoft,is not worth having. There are other better and also free products out there Spybot being just one (I use this myself).I also use to use Adaware but there is no excuse for simply abandoning the updates.
As for version 6 would you have confidence after this? Try Spybot and see what potential there is.

Exclamation Nothing in life is free

Thanks for this link Glenn - I have AdAware on my system.

Agree with you, and the pages to which you linked, that a Company that provides a security product and fails to update the engine or the reference files to deal with current threats is not worthy of support. Although I paid for the "Plus" service I'm inclined to back out even if my upgrade is free.

The homepage for Patrick Kolla the programmer of Spybot is PepiMK Software

WOULD ANY SCREAMERS DOWNLOADING SPYBOT PLEASE USE THE PROGRAMMER'S HOME SITE

The reason is as follows:-

If you have visited the support forum recently, you may have noticed that I am spending one to many hours nearly every day for months now on developing Spybot-S&D.
This has resulted in an application that is becoming more and more stable and useful, and as the word spread, more and more people downloaded it.

I firmly believe that software for private use should be free, and I have no intentions at all to make Spybot-S&D commercial or crippled in any way. But sadly, development isn't free for me any more; your downloads are using much more bandwidth than I have rented, so I have to pay my provider, and, (At this point a big thanks to my mirrors who relieve me greatly! ) I also need to buy different operating systems so I can test and a newer compiler that will provide a smaller and more stable application ...

So I am asking you to download my software, try it, and if you like it and can spare a few bucks, please come back and donate. This money will be used only to cover the costs of Spybot-S&D hosting and development, and it is absolutely voluntarily! You won't get less support or crippled versions if you don't.
Unless users support Patrick by these directions and by voluntary donations (he has not even made the product shareware!) then the upgrades may not be forthcoming.

What are your views on this Glenn? How did you get your download? Would you be you willing to dip your hands in your pocket in recognition of your enhanced security and for the continued use and upgrades of a product that you are recommending here?

Is this just routine housekeep or did "Aureate" - whatever it may be - inserted malicious instructions in registry? Wonder why previous version of Ad Aware or Ad-Watch did not prevent it happening!

Smile Spybot software

Hi,

Just downloaded the latest Spybot software and have run it on my system. No major spyware found but quite a few search engine redirect and tracking type software found like Iget and Netpalnow.

Until I ran the software my browser didn't used to open until the DUN connection had been established. I thought that this was a setting on my graphics card that I had set and couldn't find again. After installing and running Spybot my browser has started to operate normally - Opening and then establishing DUN.

The moral would appear to be that one of these products was stopping it opening whilst it sent its information back to base. If anyone experiences similar browser behaviour I suggest that you run the Spybot software to clear out the menace.

Default Glad

Hi Vic , and others , I am using Spyboy now for quite sometime and amazed and some of the spyware I have found . On its first run I ran Adawre first (updated it first) Then Spybot I had 6 or seven Malicious "bits of code" all over my registry. The spy bot program is easy to update and has worked flawlessly.

Vic I am sorry to say I have not contributed to the author for the program. Are you using it? Have you paid? ;)

Vic as an experiment why not run Adaware , then spybot and see if it finds anything more:king:

Have to say I am liking SpybotSD - Spybot - Search & Destroy by PepiMK Software more than ad-aware recently. I have all but ditched ad-aware as it doesn't seem at through, also I tried ad-aware on my parents PC and it messed up the tcp stack (though they have probably fixed that problem now?).

PS, edited title of thread - hope thats ok! :)
