When I picked up my mobile phone this evening the screen had gone totally blank
No idea why, it was just sitting quietly on the cupboard, and its still blank now You can guess what you're dialing and make a call, or accept incoming calls, but nothing appears on the screen. Not too good for text messaging!! Any ideas?

Mine went blank after I had dropped it so I guess that somewhere/how your screen has broken but without dropping it. Whether it's worth repairing (insured?) is another matter. If it's an old phone then I guess that it would be cheaper to 'upgrade'.
Where is the rest of your (new/weird) avatar?

I don't want my phone to be broken
I definitely hadn't dropped it which somehow makes it even more annoying! Its probably pretty old by mobile phone standards. Have to ask Onsie! The rest of my av? What did you want to see?

Generally it's just a loose connection, (unless the screen is actually cracked)
can be caused by temperature change or dropping it, which just knocks the tiny bit of rubber (with vertical carbon strips which carries the display signals from the circuit board to the screen) out of place. What phone is it? (Make and model) Can you take the front cover off and look to see if you can see anything? Is it in warrenty? ~Mem |

Thanks Pam. I've squeezed it around a bit and nothing
![]() Mem - Its an Ericsson T20s. I'm pretty positive that its not in warranty cos a very kind handsome young man gave it to me when he bought himself a new one and that was probably 18 months ago now! I can't see how to take the front off ![]()

unfort u cannot take the front off of an erricson T20
![]() The t28's had lots of problems with screens some of which are also on the T20. unfort, u have 3 options. 1)Take it to the nearest Ericsson service center. (if you dont know one, try phoneing carphone warehouse, some of their stores are service centers) and see how much it'll cost to get it repaired. 2) Purchase a new phone there are a couple of options here : a) If Pay as you go : i) most networks, will allow you to transfer the number to a new pay as you go handset. Either by popping your sim card in insted of the new one, or by phoning them and getting them to transfer your number and credit to the new sim card (there is occasionally a small fee (like 5 pounds) to do this. ii) purchase a "sim free" handset. This is the most expensive option, it involves buying a handset without connection, so you pay the full "manufactoring" cost of the handset. b) If a contract handset try phoning them and telling them you are leaveing, when the ask why, tell them your phone is broken and feel the calls are to expensive. They will normally try and "deal" you out of leaving by offering a free "upgrade" and possibly even cheeper line rental ![]() 3) purchase a second hand unit, check the local ad's and make sure you try your simcard in the phone before purchase. 4) Live with it ![]() 5) check your house insurance. Are you covered for accidental damage? Does it cover things that just "stop" working? if not .... Does it cover water damage???? ~Mem note I only mention CPW as used to work for them (a long time ago) I am no longer with the company, in fact I cringe when ever I hear their name (tho I do like their mowbli adverts) ![]() edit : added option 5 Last edited by Memfis : 04-June-2003 at 12:38. |

I had the same problem with my Ericsson r320s (The very thin one). But that happened cause it would fall out of my pocket at least 3 times a day. In the end it would still work (except for the screen) and when i took it to the shop the guy didn't know what was still holding it together (when he took out the main circuit it fell apart (literally).
But since you say you didn't drop it, there could be a lot more reasons (as mem said). Better follow his advice. |

Flo, you might like to look at this site, they fix phones http://www.logosunlimited.co.uk/index.htm
If your really desperate and don't want it fixed, a mate of mine has several spare Nokia's, which I might be able to get him to part with one of them (a 3210 is pretty much guranteed) Haven't decided which of my 2 phones I'm going to keep, Nokia 7110 or 3310 so whats your Poison? Behemoth

if the screen has gone off all together or faded it is generally a contact problem with older nokia phones which is relatively cheap to fix but if it is another make i suggest sellling it for parts or if its worth it replace the screen
