Cool Re: Triple/quadruple heart bypass advice

I've been in hospital since (local and then up to St Thomas' in May 2004) and they both had TV/Radio/phone but the phone was EXPENSIVE both for outgoing and for those phoning in too.

Have you got a date to go in?

The prices charged for the Lifeline service (Hospital phone, TV etc) is about to be investigated...... And about time too!

Well I mean lets face it, it is very expensive, could you imagine a little old lady who is having the operation, (and there were some at the pre op meeting) and it is the only telephone link with her husband or family, she is going to be scared at the best of times, she wouldn't be able to afford the cost of the calls to phone home for that little chat of reassurance, neither would her hubby be able to afford the calls to her, I must say, it does seem unfair.

When I was in Medway Hosp in 2004 it cost around 1 a minute to call into 'my' hospital phone but slightly cheaper to phone out.

But it's not only telephone/TV charges that are high either. When I was in St Thomas' Hosp in 1993 the car park was 2 an hour in the evenings (when my wife could drive up to visit), but at least she could park! Don't know what the charge is now tho'.

Talking Re: Triple/quadruple heart bypass advice

Hi All.
Well here the most recent happening on my big adventure, I had to see my specialist today, a Dr McGarry, very nice guy who wanted to know how I feel, what medication I am on, and if there are any side effects, is there any pain anywhere, then he went onto tell me that I may have to have a pacemaker fitted, but he would rather have it fitted after the operation than before, he went onto tell me that my heart had measured a few low spots and he is slightly concerned. Oh big surprise..... what will I have next. Oh well not to worry, at least its a nice hospital that I am going into, I may even be able to have it done at the BUPA hospital, won't I be spoilt.
Regards to all
John

Hi Jet.
Well I have had to pay 750 to buy the rights to the camper, also the guy who bought it has demanded his money back and solicitor has told me i have no choice but to pay him, I have got my camper back off the guy but it has damage to it so I have deducted 150 from his refund to cover damages, BUT I have sold it today and the lady has paid for it and is happy with it, only trouble now is if the solicitor demands to see the damage, Well its sold so he wont be able to see it, so hemight fight me for the 150 deduction, it just seems to get worse.

Hi 667.
No, what has happened is I have bought the rites to the camper, and also collected the camper from the guy who wants his money back, when I got my camper back it hasd been damaged, so i have taken photographs of the damage (It wasn't damaged when he bought it off me) and send the refund to his solicitor minus 150 that I have retained to repair the camper. with the photographs, I now expect the guy to take me to court for the return of the 150, but as I said the camper was lovely before he bought it but it came back damaged.

If you bought it back i would imagine you expected it to be in the same condition you sold in when you got it back hence the price you agreed to pay.... i think you are quite with in your rights to do so let them do what they want it would cost a lot more the the 150 to get that off you i am sure...

Hi all.
Well the latest is that I received a letter on Monday 30th October (last Monday) asking me to attend the hospital for Blood Tests, and X-Rays on Thursday 2nd November, these will be my pre-op tests, the next time I attend the hospital will be Tuesday the 7th November for my Operation on the Wednesday, Well upto yet I have given a step by step account of what happens when somebody is told they need a Heart Bypass, based on my personal happenings, When I am fit enough to get to my pc, I will give details about what happened upto my operation and after and the recuperation period, what hurts and what I have discovered I can do and what not to do. A couple of people have asked me why I want to give a step by step account, well when I was told I had to have it done, I was devastated, I did not know what to expect, I tried the net but found no in depth reports what is going to happen, and because I found it so traumatic not being able to get any information, I thought my blow by blow account would ease any of the worries of anybody who is told they have to have the same op, I would be much obliged if people who read this site can pass info on so that others can read it.
Regards
to All
John

Thumbs up Re: Triple/quadruple heart bypass advice

Good luck - you'll be back on your feet in no time. I'd expect you to be sitting in a chair by your hospital bed two days after the op, maybe one day.

Keep in touch.

Hi All.
Thank you for your best wishes, Well I attended the hospital today for my final interview before my big day, what happens here is called the Pre Op. and you sit with the Nurse who will be in charge of you before and after the op, or she may be in charge of the team that is looking after you, at this meeting you go through all the details about any fears you may have about the op, you will also go through any medication your taking, she tells you exactly what will happen before and after your op, right up till the moment that you go home. she then will take a swab test from your nostrils, this is testing for the MRSA virus, after this you go and have some blood taken (doesnt hurt) then you go onto have Xrays taken, this is to check that your lungs are fine. The whole meeting takes up about 3 hours and is very informative, Do not be frightened to ask any questions, as for Pain, there is no need to worry, you will have the best pain management, they do not want you to have any pain as it will only impede your recovery, saying that you will not feel as though you never had an operation, you will feel as though somebody is sitting on your chest. The nurse told me that the operation takes 3.5 hours, you are then kept in intensive care with one to one nursing for about 1.5 hours so they can monitor you, then you are moved to your ward. she told me that all recovery times depend in the indavidual, there was one guy who 5 hours later was tucking into Custard and Spotted Dick. Well thats what happened on this bout. This will be my last posting now untill after my operation, then I will carry on with my in depth report, Untill then God Bless to all of you,
Take Care
Regards
John
