Default Can Someone Expalin These figures Please

Ok,these are the stats my livebox is reporting

Noise margin (dB) : 12.4
Attenuation (dB) : 24.0

Attainable download rate (kbps) : 9056

Rate (kbps) Downstream 7616:Upstream 448

Now I read this as my line is capable of 7616 down and 448 up.Am I right in assuming this?and if so,why when I do speed tests at http://www.speedtest.net/

do my results never get higher than about 2200 kbps.

Is this just terrible service from Orange or is there something wrong with my set-up?I`ll admit to leaning towards Orange being a terrible provider, but any thoughts would be most welcome.

yes, if the line stats for the dB figures are for downstream (which I think they are) and with the other numbers it looks like your line is pretty good

the actual download speed - how long have you been connected,. if it's less than 10 days (or whatever) then you won't see the full line speed,.

also try the testing at different times of day.,. that should also show how much the ISP is causing the slowdown (like 5am + 5pm tests etc)

Thanks for your reply silver.

I`ve been connected for a couple of months at this speed and I just wanted to see if I was getting what I was told I was getting.

Been doing tests at various times during the day with the result that early morning I get results in the 6000+ range and as the day goes on it starts to lower until during 5pm onwards it can be anywhere between 2000 and 3000.
I guess its just the nature of the beast in peak times.

Thanks for you help.
