Default connecting to AOL from outside the network

ive set up a home network with a dvr and 4 cameras, everything works fine from inside the network i can view images through other computers and through an iphone when im on a wifi connection but I really want to view them when im out and about but there is no remote administration in the router menu. Does anyone know how to do this (I know its possible because i've set it up at other places and it works fine) and am beginning to think its AOL thats stopping me? AOL tech support were no help at all and didnt have a clue what I was talking about!
Hope somone can help?

What router do you have?
What software are you using to supply the camera feeds?

these are the things we need to know.

Its highly unlikely that AOL will be stopping you.

You will need to forward a port to the unit running the camera feed software.
