Default ADSL Max BRAS speed profile check

You can see what your BRAS profile for your line has been set to using the following BT test.

http://test.speedtester.bt.com:50301/

You have to put your phone number in and then your isp username.

This is what you should see.

The Performance Tester is now testing Broadband connection. Your configured download throughput speed for this service is 7150 k

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6199 kbps

The speed test will vary depending on the time of day you take it. It can take a while for the test to do its stuff.

If you get a result like the following after your 10 day training period then your profile is stuck and you need to contact your ISP.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1767 kbps

It might be worth checking your internal wiring as this can cause problems.

If you have a NTE5 Master socket you can remove the front plate and conect direct to the test socket bypassing your hardwired extensions.

You can then see if you get better SNR on your router and sync speed if this is the case you might want to try removing the ring wire.

As per this guide At DSL Zone.

You may need to tune the tcp parameters for your connection. Go to www.dslreports.com/tweaks and run the test.

For a fast DSL connection there is often a high latency (delay), so you many need to increase the receive window (buffer). This allows you to recieve more data without stopping the connection to send acknowledgments. A tuned connection can easily double your bandwidth.

Hiya.

It takes at least 10 days for a new connection to stabilise.

If after 10 -14 days it hasnt risen in speed, you need to contact BT and tell them your IP profile is stuck at 2mb, which is quite common.

Hi,

I just got a BT iPlate. My router was reporting 2240 downstream and 448 upstream b4 I installed.

After install it went immedately to 5472 d/s and 448 u/s.

After checking with the BTSpeedChecker it is settling at 4520 approx with 448 u/s, but the IP Profile throughput is about 1500.. does this look correct? or should I wait for it to settle. Also will I expct any increase?

Thx in advance

Talking Re: ADSL Max BRAS speed profile check

Your BRAS profile adjusts depending on the stability of the line,if theres a fault this will affect it. Did you know if you turn your router off every night when you go to bed then this will adjust your BRAS profile. Leave it on 24/7. I found this website really helpful for pin-pointing the problems of my slow broadband. www.howtocheckyourphoneline.weebly.com
