SWMBO (the wife ) teaches 4's, 5's and 6's. She is easy enough to live with it's just (violins playing in the background) that school is 8am-6pm and then some in the evenings and weekends. It's really wonderful for us to get away, even for a day!

Welcome to the_teacher

I believe a bit of smacking or corporal punishment in schools would give teachers back the respect they had in my days as a pupil.

A good caning did myself and other pupils no permanent harm and IMHO I'm a better citizen for it.

I now pass the benefits of my education to others - but the paperwork involved in role play as a headmaster is somewhat daunting

Headmaster! And what about all the other staff? They too have mountains of paperwork and they don't get the non-contact time that a head gets.

@seaview....

It was an all boys school and the only female staff were the cooks in the kitchen and the school secretary.

Hi worldlife but what are you blathering on about?

SV teaching is purely non-contact nowadays - though of course things were more "hands on" in the past! (mores the pity sometimes )

Thought i'd avoided the usual "cane" and "discipline" stuff

Gem although it's true Heads avoid the day to day hassles of classroom teaching they have a pretty hard time of it trying to eke out the pennies.

But this is a welcome thread so maybe a new thread for this one?

I'm not blathering Miss.... It was seaview!!!

He was winding me up about things we shouldn't talk about on this welcome thread

W/L puts on gown and mortar but if you do have problems coping with difficult pupils please feel free to drop into my study to discuss things.........

Oops! *blushes* Sorry, I should have posted here before I posted query on one of the threads!

Just thought I'd better come and say hello to all the regulars before I start interrupting threads.

My name's Mel and I live in Lancashire, 6 miles outside of Preston.

I work fulltime and in whatever sparetime I have I'm either surfing or sewing!

Nice to met you all anyway

Hi and welcome to The Scream! Gothgirl. As has been said, we can certainly do with more females on here, particularly good looking ones anyway (that should cause a stir! ). (Dashes off to watch TV and awaits the flak! )

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Merlin- well I could darn your socks- as long as they're made of pvc! Thats all I'm sewing at the moment. Coats, skirts n tops all in pvc. Bit fed up of it at the mo, hence the surfing when I have a chance but I have a self imposed deadline to meet

Gem- thanks for the compliment- I think it was a compliment anyway, bit difficult to take it as you haven't even seen me!

Pisces- thank you happy to help bolster the numbers

How mean can you get! You might have at least given Gothgirl a link instead of letting a poor sweet girl new to our Forums wander around in the dark!
Huh, TLC indeed!

Well I didn't want to be seen leading an innocent girl against her will down the alley to my thread.

I thought gentle persuasion would be the order of the day

lol I should be used to blokes behaving like this seeing as my office is 80% male. Least it makes me feel at home here!

I'm not originally from Lancashire so can't call myself a Lancashire Lass- only been here 7 years, I'm originally from Hereford. So I'm more of a country wench

Thanks for the welcome Seaviewuk, on my way to your thread now

look at my pseudo- I like dark alleys

Glad you made it from kdee and thanks for the introduction.

I'm certain when deni-zen returns she will join you on the great walking on the hands trek!!!!

(Others might like to know deni will be returning - she is just tied up at the moment. Whoops I meant to say she is extremely pressed with business affairs. Errmmmm ... she is extremely pressed with work issues right now.)

Kdee - Maybe I could fulfil your Pope dream. Took that role in an open air performance of "Sister Act". It was intended I would arrive by a chauffeur driven vehicle but the only transport we could get through narrow spaces was a moped. That was fine and I practiced looking serious and doing Popish waves from the back of a moped. Unfortunately on the actual day the engine of the moped failed about 100 yards from the stage. I must admit it was difficult keeping in character with my chauffeur walking the moped assisted by two security guards helping to push it.

The audience of course were wetting themselves.....

Enjoy your stay.........

A very warm welcome to The Scream! kdee.
The good point is that you are a female and we seem to be short of females on The Scream!. The bad point was that you mentioned Worldlife

I am having some sympathy now with our American visitors who are urging us we should carry guns.

Seems a good idea as long as I can carry one and Gem is banned.

On reflection kdee maybe it's just a wee bit of jealousy - you know what I mean

OK......
Where do I start? Age......*cringe* .......nobody wants to know my age do they?
ummmmm..... kids? Yes, 3 of the darlings!
Eldest daughter is 22, married and living in Kent. I miss her terribly, but we travel to see each other rugularly.
Youngest daughter 20 and living at home.
Son 17 and learning to drive! I'm going to worry SOOOO much when he passes his test and goes it alone!
I teach teenagers with severe learning disabilities, mostly autistism and downes. Have been doing the job for 5 years after having a late career change. I was a nurse before that!
I'm totally insane and a cheeky flirt, so watch out guys!
I'll try to behave myself though.
Now my favourite things......food = prawn mayo sarnies (see my welcome thread for explanation) drink = red wine, color = dusky pink, song = forever autumn, film = pretty woman, sleepless in seattle or miss congeniality (love all the soppy girlie films) books = Terry Pratchett Discworld Novels
Hobbies..... all water sports, anything on, in, or under the water, karate (black belt in Goju Ryu)
Anything else you want to know about me, just ask!!
There! I did it!!

And me a total flirt your other arf is not a black-belt third dan or anything like that is he

Welcome again to the mad house

Terry Pratchet does rock! have you read any David Eddings? I love his books too

Yipee for another who loves soppy girl movies . I love all those too, and you can add "while you were sleeping".

I would love to hear more about your work with autistic teens.

The EO (evil oppressor) had 3 lessons in karate and gave up, so no 3rd Dan qualification.
He lives abroad and although we've lived separate lives for about 15 years, we just never bothered getting a divorce.
Neither of us have any desire to remarry, so it suits us just fine.
