Default Compromised Computers (ISP)

Hello, I'm a student at BCU studying Computer Forensic.

For one of my coursework I have to research into want ISP do when customers computers become compromised (Viruses, Malware, Adware) and what they should do. To do this I need to look on forums to seek advice from professionals and user who may know about want they do.

So can anyone tell me what they do? and what you think they should do?

Any information would be great , thanks Giles102.

Depends it the virus /malware is one that sends thousands of e-mails (spam) without your knowledge ,if they receive such complaints, they will suspend your access until you can satisfy them that your pc's are free from such malware, some isp's ask for a independent engineers report to verify that the connected pc is clean, which i personally don't agree with, as plenty of us know how to clean our pc's of viruses ect

Depends on how the ISP would define "compromised".

some isps will yank the connection if they see/get reports of a lot of spam emails being sent, I know from experiance

compromised laptop brought onto network, then within a few hours the connection was stopped, I had to wait till the next day and I could talk to someone at the ISP to reconnect it.. annoying but I can see why they do it.. in theory that type of action must cut down on spam email etc
