Question What's everyone playing?

Hey there,
just being nosey.

The computer games market is big business these days, it makes more money than Hollywood and the music industry reportedly.
And yet the games forum is silent.
So come on, don't be shy, what y'all playing?

This week I have been mostly playing Starcraft Brood War, and X-com Apocalypse.
X-com is great because it allows people to live out their X-file type fantasies and deal with some E.B.E jeebies.
Starcraft, is a lot like a job, you're never doing enough work, but hey that's part of the attraction I think.

Lots of other games out there too.

I've just been replaying Soldier of Fortune which I don't think can be beaten for mindless violence - very useful when your p***ed off (e.g. trying to record Lord of the Rings off Radio 4 only to find that the transmitter in my area is down - so streaming it over the net only for Tiscali's server to keep losing my connection - aaarrggh - I need to shoot something).

Also enjoy Half-Life, but I'm stuck on the floaty rocks bit.

Black & White and Max Payne are pretty good too.

I've been playing Serious Sam, Max payne, Fifa 2001 and a few old Sega games converted for the PC!
I'd play quake 2 a lot more, but Sil & Slo have been avoiding me since I kicked their *-AHEM* a few months ago
I'm looking forward to February as Serious Sam the 2nd encounter will be coming out.
It's got some great new weapons and lovely huge new levels and it only costs about 20!

Robin: just worked out what your first sentence meant

I'm past that bit and standing on top of one of the floaty rocks - I know what I need to do (jump onto one of the mantas and thence to the teleporter), it's just doing it that's the problem.

Err.. I'd love to play some of these "modern" cool looking highly rated PC games, not much I can do though with an AMD K6-200MMX processor, 64Mb RAM, 32Mb Sparkle TNT video card is there ???

Anyone know what I COULD play with those low specs please ?

I am so envious of all of you who can play MAX PAYNE, that looks one sh*t hot great game !!!

Talking

Hey,
thanks for the replies.

Mega I had a P133 with no 3d graphics card about 2 years ago.
Even then, Quake 2 ran quite well on it, even the original TNT card should give smooth frame rates at 640x480 or higher.
Tiberium Sun ran on it(bit of a pants game tho' ), Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate ran like a dream(and they're good intelligent games).

If you are looking at system specs on game boxes it might be best to consider your machine as a Pentium 166 rather than a K6.
And you can find amazingly cheap hardware at computer fairs(like a K6-2 500 for 20, or a TNT2 card for 20-30).

Serious Sam rocks The last level is sooo hard.

The only way I can get through the last few levels of Serious Sam, is by using the cheats. Dicky have you managed to complete it without them and if so at what difficulty level?

I loved Halflife, a fantastic game, but that end bit with the floaty rocks just spoiled it all

Tedious and frustrating and far far too hard.

Beef, I have to admit I couldn't beat Serious Sam on Normal difficulty(although I tried).
I did manage it on Easy difficulty though and it was still OTT even then.

I'm currently going through it again in split-screen with a friend.
One of the best things about split-screen is that you can set it to infinite lives, so that you can have fun, beat the game on even the hardest difficulty and it's not cheating(Doom Co-operative mode used to work the same way).

Episode 2 - chainsaws, flamethrowers... yummy

Default Sam I Am

Have been playing Serious Sam Second Encounter these past few days. The levels are absolutely huge. There even more enemies to kill.
I've been playing on "easy" mode and it is very difficult. At one point in the game I wondered if I'd chosen normal or hard
The makers have fine tuned the game engine so it runs a little faster and better. Also Sam's appearence has changed slightly.
Even though the game hasn't really had too many new things added to it, I would still reccomend it. At 20 a go which is very good for a high end game like this.
Why can't the other game companies produce something for nearly the same price

Talking 20? tempation indeed.

Didn't know it was out in the UK yet, thanks for the heads-up.
One of the great things about Serious Sam is the co-operative mode, and it even works online! Up to eight people or so taking on the hordes is quite a spectacle(there's even a spectator mode for it).
The only downside at present is that the netcode seems to be a bit dodgy, especially for modems(although a patch is in the works).

For me the hard part of Half-life's ending was taking on Gonarch(lovely name ).
That thing was a wee bit on the speedy side and I couldn't figure out where it's vulnerabilities were.

Hi All. This is`nt a game really - more of a Simulation. It is called TRAINZ and is a Model Railroad construction affair. Produced by AURAN (an Australian company) and will be on sale here in England sometime next month I believe. I have had it since before last Xmas and find it very addictive. Rather than going on to describe it myself you can read an excellent review at :-
http://www.wargamer.com/reviews/trainz_main.asp

Knocks the spots off Microsoft`s TRAIN SIMULATION
and the customer support is 100%
Highly reccommended

Looks good Stradbroke, when we were boys my older brother was really into slot cars so I kinda was too but I always really wanted to get my hands on some trains.

Available soon you say? I might just be getting one of those. I can't say why but Microsofts Train Sim didn't really appeal to me. Although I use their Flight Sim all the time

Further to my previous posts - here`s another review of the TRAINZ model railroading :- http://www.gonegold.com/reviews/trainz/index.shtml

This is the best "Game/Sim" to have been produced for a long time.

I've been playing Half-Life lately. Mostly the add-on MODS, though. It's still a good game!
