Angry Slow P2P sharing with Tiscali

Hi is anyone else having the same problem.
I am with Tiscali, on an unlimited 1mb broadband connection.
However my connections on downloads with Bit Comet are going at 1-5kb/s!!! (APPAULING). The downlaoded is always well seeded and i have tried all the tweaks to maximise my use with bit comet but still slow downlaoding.

Weird thing is when doing speed tests or downloading files from websites the speed seems to be ok. It is only when P2P downloading!!!!

Is anyone experiencing the same problem? do you think Tiscali is rationing me as i'm a heavy user despite them saying no caps??! But surely 1-5kb/s download is just not fair!!

Please can someone help!

Are you using the default Torrent ports ?

Try changing them.

Not really but dont use the default ports as most are blocked either by the isp or the sites you are downloading from.

Have you used a different client

I take it it has been ok ? have you got the ports open on the firewall / router ?

But tiscali will slow you down

Hi there!

I used to have the Tiscali broadband and I've changed to Bulldog because Tiscali told me they were going to limit the download limit to what they think was "normal". The problem you might be having is related to their policy.

If I were you I would call them and ask if they are doing this. I can tell what I was told and that was the reason I've changed to Bulldog and I don't have those problems with them.

Good luck!

Yep you sure are right about it being Tiscali! I'm with the 512kbps and NEVER has my download on Emule OR Bit Torrent gone above Five! I use a standard modem, firewall(The required ports are open) and It still goes slow! I've sent Tiscali countless emails about this and they just say they don't know! I can't wait for 3 months for my contract to end!

Tiscali = Slow P2P service and Terrible Assitance

Yes, they are quite rude on the phone... I remember how angry I used to feel with them... I personally would recommend you Bulldog, it's definetely good value for money, I got this promotion, £30 a month including the phone line rental and I've got the 4mb connection.

Take care!

probably not a good idea to put email addresses in public.

You might want to edit that and send it to him privately.

Angry Re: Slow P2P sharing with Tiscali

Same here,

www/http is at 60k bytes/s but all my p2p applications have been capped / restricted to 5k bytes/s.

Tiscali's technical support (in India) has not heard of p2p applications or even mIRC before!

All we can do is sue the liers for claiming 512kbps and giving us 1/10 of that!

Cool Re: Slow P2P sharing with Tiscali

too true! Downloads at average of 55kbps and P2P no faster than 5kbps. The customer service is absolute perfetic. I got through to an Ahnab 3 times who had no idea how to even solve my problems. He had never heard of P2P but actively denied port throttling. This is obviously what they are doing and i think it's illegal! Looking forward to your reply!

To check which ports are open and which have been closed by Tiscali visit the link below to download a software called Scan Port 1.3 this software is free and very small in size. It can scan all 65000 ports and lists the open and closed ports.

http://www.download.com/Scan-Port/30...ml?tag=lst-0-3

Although this may or may not solve your speed problem, it will certainly prove that all ports have been closed.

I am with Tiscali and can put up with their fair usage policy
But the service I pay for is supposed to be UNLIMITED
P2P has been blocked All Weekend
this is outside of the time set out in the Fair Usage Policy
this weekend the unlimited service I am paying for has very much been LIMITED
therefor Tiscali are in breach of contract
