Ofcom case against Opera. Re: Misuse of personal numbers.
Case opened 11/5/04 However, as Opera Telecom Ltd had previously been the subject of an Ofcom investigation into the misuse of personal numbers (CW/00749/02/04), Ofcom sought assurances from Opera Telecom Ltd that a sufficiently robust procedure was in place to prevent misuse of personal numbers. Opera Telecom Ltd has informed Ofcom that is has decided to disconnect all of its personal number services with effect from 5 August 2004. Any possible future breach should not therefore occur and, as a result, Ofcom has decided to close its investigation. Opera Telecom. "Network Operator" record. "Service Provider"...................Date..........Complain t.................Fine...... 2020 Image Ltd......................9/7/04............?........................? Opera Telecom.......................4/4/05............2......................£10,000.. ....................etc..etc...and..etc. I realise the above are 09's, but does it show that Opera are habitual repeat offenders? Why does Ofcom continue to lease their numbers to these people? Icstis have been told by their owners (NOC) to stop giving this information to the "customers". It's not good for business. The 07 and 08 that are now being put on diallers wont appear on any lists. The same mistake that happened with their 09's wont happen with 07 and 08. Who liscenses the "network operators"? Who recieves the liscense fees? Who owns the 07,08 and 09's ? Who recieves the rent from the "network operators"? Who is responsible for regulating "network operators"? Who would be the biggest loosers if proper safegaurds were put in place to protect the public from this fraud? Who is responsible for regulating and creating this fraud heaven?
