Hi all,
I've just bought a BT Voyager 2091 Modem/Wireless router from ebay. It was still unopened My problem is I use tiscali bb and everytime I try to configure it for tiscali I get a message saying that it's locked to BT YAHOO bb. Anybody know if this can be unlocked in any way? I can telnet into it so my other question is will it be a command I can send to unlock it or will it be the firmware that needs hacking?Regards, Jim |

Thanx for the reply, I'd already checked it out. Got loads of info from it on how to program this thing and i even managed to delete the default connection but I still cant get it to connect to tiscali. I imagine its somewhere on the firmware that telnet doesnt let me access. When u say it also applies to the 2091 do you mean its also a Viking chipset? If so will uploading a firmware for the 205 work on it? or will i loose all the wireless side of it?

Once done and SAVED, you'll prob need to reboot the router. If it won't work, you may need to give it a manual TCP/IP address valid for Tiscali to work from. I'd try this before any firmware upgrades ![]() When I said the site was good for the 2091, I meant the unlocking instructions. I don't know about the chipset, but a look on google should tell you ![]() |

Hi mate,
I've tried all that. If I use Internet explorer to try and set up the accounts I get the message "This equipment is for use with BT Broadband only" or something like that. If I try to use telnet to change it it lets me set up the account but it always says "Authentication failure" and I know I've entered username/pass correctly. I worked out its a Broadcom chipset anyway, not a viking. Will hopefully find something useful from broadcom. regards, Jim |

I thought the link I gave had a 'fix' to unlock this router...presumably it didn't or the fix didn't 'unlock' it ?
Just one small point. If there WAS a fix, did you SAVE it within the router, and do a factory re-set afterwards ? I think this normally requires a complete 'power down' (remove plug of power source ) hold down reset button whilst reconnecting power supply and keep held down for @ 30 seconds or more. |

heyy all,
i have exact same problem with the BT Voyager 220V. I installed the modem correctly and was told to enter my username and password. However a message appeared stating the service is not supported by BT and only bt logins (@btclick.com,btbroadband.com, btyahoo.com etc) can be used. How can I allow my non bt ISP details to be entered? My chipset for the modem is BROADCOM BCM6348KPB. Thanks, Sunny |

Will just have to dive in and give it a go Hi there i am having similar problems with mt BT voyager 2091. the dam thing is locked to the bt internet services only. wish the person who was selling it on ebay had mentioned that fact. regardless the telnet commands are limited and i have figured out that the lock is somewhere in the firmware. i would have a go at editing the modem if anyone has been lucky enough to have figured this problem out. any help would be great otherwise ist head in hands and a new credit card bill for a new wireless router |

Hi peeps.
I havent had the pleasure of using a BT badged Modem/Router, but found a couple of sites that may help explain what is needed to unlock some of them. The articles below are untested by me, so I cannot say if they work or not and anyone trying these suggestions, do so at their own risk. Some technical knowledge is required, so do not try them if you are unsure. The sites below, may not cover all BT Routers. http://www.uk-bug.net/modules.php?op...rtid=10&page=1 http://forum.lettronics.com/forums/396/ShowPost.aspx

The info to unlock the voyager 2091 to your ISP is on Ebay, my freind got it and it worked for him on tiscali broadband Thanks for the info everyone Just contacted the guy who is selling the info to unlock the voyager 2091 on ebay. He said its a 5 step process and ill kick myself for not seeing it, therefore i refuse to buy the info at the minute. Any ideas? the unlock technique is generic for a range of voyager modems including the 205 If all else fails ill buy the info and post it here |

Well, if I had a friend that had the info, I would just torture him until he gave me the 5 steps, then post it on the Internet for all to see.

Hiya.
By all intents and purposes, these routers seem to be for BT ADSL only, as supplied by them for their network. Obviously people are selling these off and of course they are locked to BT's network, via the Firmware. So I dont think they are actually breaking the law if they are specifically used/supplied to BT ADSL users. If they are being supplied by a reputable company and/or individual seller, then maybe it isnt right selling them as usable for everyone. If I ever find reliable/easy unlocking instructions, I will post them here.

This should work with the earlier models,
connect the modem to your PC via ethernet and ensure the dsl line is connected load up your web browser and type in http://192.168.1.1 to access the control panel Select the QUICK START menu, and then select disconnect A screen now loads up to enter your own ISP username and password After entering your details click connect |

This should work with the earlier models, This works great for the early 2091 routers but just my luck that i have an updated 2091 firmware. Which means that the disconnect option is no longer there on the 192.168.1.1 setup screen. Any chance of finding a copy of the earlier firmware or any other ideas :-) |

my 2091 was brand new 3 weeks ago and the disconnect option is on mine its in the quick start menu, I'm with BT though so I can't confirm if it will work. Double check your voyager control panel and select the quick start option, thats where you'll find the disconnect button, thanks

When i first enter the 192.168.1.1 screen i am already in the quick start option menu it seems. The screen just says my modem is ready to connect but unless the username ends with bt.com then nothing. Any ideas Thanks |

The modem should connect automatically regardless of whether youre with BT or not as the DSL would be detected, I gather you're sure the DSL line is connected. Try a full reset of the router and see if you are connected, if you are connected then go to the quick start menu and select disconnect then try putting youre details in, this only works if the modem has detected and connected to DSL, is there any chance your router is faulty?
Can somebody else leave feedback here and tell me if youre having the same problem? As this method gives me the option to input my own username and password, my mate had a 205 and the setup screen was similar to the 2091 he used this method with tiscali and it worked a treat, the router even detected DSL on the tiscali connection, and after selecting the quick start menu and disconnecting he was able to input the login details for the tiscali account, the router then worked fine with tiscali broadband. |

The router detects the DSL connection and the light goes green. The quick setup screen will either say "This router is not ready to connect" or "This router is ready to connect" depending if the DSL line is connected or not. The only other option on the screen (other than the username and password entry points) is a large red button saying connect. Press this and the router tries to connect, the screen refreshes about five times and returns back to the same screen (the connect button is still there) I have reset the router using the button on the back but nothing. Where about is the disconnect option located on screen? Also does anyone no if is it possible to use the router as just a wireless connection point if i purchase another ethernet router for establishing the ADSL connection?? Thanks |

Hi, I'm a new user with this problem. Searching around, the guys here:-
http://corz.org/comms/hardware/route...ter.how-to.php seem to have got a bit further. It appears that the hack for sale on ebay is not a goer with new 2091's:- "I e-mailed the guy who was selling the Unlock instructions in ebay and sadly he had nothing to help use with either: "Hi, I removed the listing because this doesn't seem to work for everyone, here is the step by step guide. Connect the dsl to the router and connect your router to the PC via ethernet. Open your web browser and type in http://192.168.1.1 You should connect automatically Now click on Quick Start Now click DISCONNECT the option to put your own username and password now appears, enter them and reconnect, thanks" Looks like the search for an older firmware continues, or maybe someone can extract and edit the existing firmware, anyone know how to hexedit?" Sorry to pour cold water, but they do seem to be getting somewhere with the firmware idea. |

Hi everyone.
Is there any news on the origin of the thread, I am also one of the unfortunate ones that has a Voyager 2091 that can't be set up with a different ISP other than BT! I am with Wanadoo, I already have a wired modem set up with Wanadoo, connected to the main PC and just wanted a wireless network link to my laptop around the house/workshop. Unfortunately without the V2091 router being linked to an ISP the networking side of it does not seem to be functioning either. Also I can no longer change to a USB network connection to try, as the installation CD is seeing something on the PC and says "welcome back" to finish installation, which it can't complete without ISP connection. I have tried uninstalling, but there must be file remaining after the uninstall? Is there any news on a firmware upgrade? Happy New Year. John |
