Hello, my first post 'ere! Hopefully it's an easy problem to solve.
Here is the problem: I'm trying to access the configuration page of my router (Some unbraned thing from dabs). The router 'number' or ip address is 10.0.0.2 and my computer is set as 10.0.0.1, another being 10.0.0.3. I load up Internet Explorer (or Mozilla Firefox or just Windows Explorer) and type in 10.0.0.2 or http://10.0.0.2 to get onto the configuration pages. However, nothing happens. The browser just sits there and doesn't do anything. The page doesn't open. I've tried turning off my firewall program but that doesn't help. The computer is a 2.9ghz Pent 4 with 512mb of Ram. Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002. The internet works fine, so information is getting to and from the router; i just can't get into it. The manual also doesn't help. Please advise, thanks in advance, Alex. |

humm, looking at the above it does confirm the gateway (router) as 10.0.0.2
perhaps the web interface is on a different port - like http://10.0.0.2:81 or the web config is turned off - you might try connecting via telnet to port 23 from dos window try telnet 10.0.0.2 could try resetting the router, how did you originally config the router if not able to connect? Sil |

Hiya.
Just an addition to Sil's advice. It may be due to your PC being on 10.0.0.1, usually the PC's are assigned an IP number higher than the Gateway IP. My router uses the same IP range, IP's 10.0.0.0, 10.0.0.1, dont usually come into the initial setting up. 10.0.0.2 is the Gateway on mine and then my 2 PC's are assigned, 10.0.0.3, 10.0.0.4, automatically, because I have mine to auto assign an IP address. If you have manually set the IP range on the PC's, try setting your PC to 10.0.0.3 and your Brothers PC to 10.0.0.4 with a Subnet Mask of 255.0.0.0 on both PC's. Both PC's and Router may need a re-boot, to initialise correctly after setting the new IP's.

It's worked fine before. I used to be able to connect to the config pages no problem. Just I can't now. First time I've tried on this PC (new pc which i got when i wasn't using the router) and i just chapped in the details into TCP/IP Config (i think in network conx) from my old system and go online fine.
Nothing happens when trying telent. It's a new problem - not a new router or anything developed by itself.. Tried resetting the router - No help. |

humm,. it should work,.
I would go for a reboot everything option, turn everything off (router + all connected PCs / switches etc) - boot the router and let it settle (5 mins or so) then boot one of the PCs while it's connected to the router and try to get to the config as before sometimes things get stuck and complete network reset and booting stuff up in order (and only turning one PC on) should help reduce possible conflicts Sil |

Lets roll out the TS! treatment.
a couple of long term suggestions. Best to avoid accidental conficts and what not by using dhcp. You should be able to set ip range and possibley be able to set static IP's based on mac addresses. DHCP will also make changing network settings in the future easier. I'd also change the network mask to something more suitible like 255.255.255.0 |
