Hi,
Ive tried all the combinations suggested to no avail. Ive also checked the ZZMYAA6.196.bli file I downloaded from this site and it doesnt correspond to line 1 or line 130 as quoted in the post earlier in this thread .Could it have been corrupted during download and would that stop me accessing the firmware ? and if so can the situation be recovered? Hi Again,
I wish someone could explain this to me - after not accepting any passwords all day and having virtually given up on it.i reverted to my BT 105 usb modem to come on here to seek further guidance. That too now refused to log onto the ISP so I plugged the hub back in and rebooted. I am now typing this in on a , presumably, Unlocked hub (the 105 is not connected to the telephone line). I still cannot Telnet into the hub on 192.168.1.254 though so I cant be sure W.T.H.'s going on ! any ideas? WILT. |

@ WILT.
I took the liberty to move your posts to a thread of its own. Your present problems arent really related to unlocking the HH, so I created a new thread here....... http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/s...ad.php?t=24904 Apologies for the incovenience.

Does anyone know how to get REAL root access to this thing?
I've done what it says in http://www.homehubblog.com/getting-root-the-easy-way/ and the admin account is now shown as SuperUser rather than Administrator. If I ncftp into it and try to 'ls' the root of the file system, it comes back with:- .: Permission denied telnetting into it just gives me that stupid pseudo-shell which is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. The /etc/passwd file is as follows: root::0:0:Super User:/:/bin/sh nobody:*:1:1:nobody:/:/bin/sh In line with normal UNIX practice, this should mean that I can log in as root with no password but that doesn't work. Is there any way of logging into the thing and getting a proper /bin/sh with root access? |

No, I can't changed any of the files. I'm connected via ncftp so I tried downloading the /etc/passwd file, editing it, then uploading it but it wouldn't let me overwrite the one already there.
There is no /etc/shadow file. |

hi there,
i've stumbled onto this thread and as a result of reading it have ebayed a cheap hub to play with. i'm thinking that it would be a lot easier to get into playing / hacking these things if the information was a little bit easier to trawl through. i would be happy to set up a wiki site to store all the guides / experiences on and would happily pay for bandwidth / hosting / a domain if people were receptive to adding to it (as i have precisely zero experience with the hub so far). what are people's thoughts? cheers, Andrew |

Hi I have some software that should unlock the bt home hub. I have no idea how to send it to someone to look through and check it out. I have been told it does work from a number of people. so if anyone would tell me how or who I send it to so you can put it somewhere everyone can find that would be great. many thanks lisa

Hi guys, is there a step by step instruction on how to use the HH as a simple Wireless Access point. I have the Virgin Media Modem and I just want to use the HH to beam the internet. I've tried putting the ethernet cable into the HH from the modem but nothing much is going on. Any help?
Cheers in advance |

I managed to get this to work as well, the exact commands for anybody else intrested in doing this are below. Im trying to replace our BT HomeHub with a better adsl router but keep the Voip (the problem being, my dad wants the voip but i have lots of issues with the router) I now know what i need to do this but im just asking the question, how exactly do you now connect the HomeHub up with the new router? Do i connect the homehub to the new router or just the phone line into the wall via the phone socket? basicly its the cabling/connection between the hubs voip phone and new router i need to find out so that i can actually get my dad to let me change from our homehub. Regards Kyle. |

Sup guys, I just got pwned by my noobishness.
Here's what happened: I'm on 6.2.2.6, followed the instructions from this page - http://www.homehubblog.com/getting-root-the-easy-way/ - But I made three mistakes. 1) I didn't copy down the remote assistance url 2) I didn't copy down the Tech account password 3) I changed name=admin instead of role=Administrator 4) I only realised the third mistake after I restored the file to the router (LOL) Help? |

Firstly, excuse me if this has already been posted and if I'm way off track.
(Background - I'm switching to a new ISP and don't have the cash for a new router, so I need to be able to use the Home Hub to connect) Following the link provided in this forum:- http://www.homehubblog.com/getting-root-the-easy-way/ I've enabled SuperUser mode. Skimming through the router ini file, this section seemed interesting: Code:
[ ppp.ini ] ifadd intf=Internet rtadd intf=Internet dst=0.0.0.0/0 src=0.0.0.0/0 metric=10 ifconfig intf=Internet dest=atm_Internet accomp=enabled mru=1500 doddelay=120 dnsmetric=10 ifconfig intf=Internet user=bthomehub@btbroadband.com status=enabled If I changed that to my username of my current provider, all I'd need to do is to add a password entry. Doing a search for speedtouch ppp.ini on Google, yielded this forum post:- http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=154472 and this entry into the config for a speedtouch 510: Code:
[ ppp.ini ] ifadd intf=ppp rtadd intf=ppp dst=0.0.0.0/0 src=10.0.0.40/1 metric=1 ifconfig intf=ppp dest=ppp user=MYLOGIN password=xxxxxx proto=pppoe encaps=llc accomp=on addrtrans=pat status=up ifattach intf=ppp e.g. Code:
ifconfig intf=Internet user=myusername@myisp password=xxxxxx status=enabled Any idea if this would work, or am I really missing something here? (IOW - it's already been done, or it won't work because of X) |

A problem with the power socket has been ruled out, anyone got any ideas ? cheers |

the guide to follow to go about changing the hub to allow another isp. just trying to get tiscali to work through it and connect wireless to a ibook, i know its prob all posted up but if anyone can just point to were i need to look that would be fantastic |

No, that isn't the guide to changing ISP.
If someone could point me to that as well (read my post above), that would be good - there's so much scattered information about this hub, it's hard to determine what works and what doesn't - and I really don't want to brick my hub ![]() It seems I have a later version of the Hub, so the guide in this thread probably won't work for me, I'm hoping my previous idea gets an answer - I'll know for sure whether it'll work on Friday 1st June. |

The HH I have does seem to support any DynDNS settings through the web interface.
There was a mention somewhere on this thread about DynDNS being available in the 6.2.2.6 revison and was this through the web or just the telnet? Also the NAT port routing (aka game and application sharing seems incredibly convoluted) . I am running a multi homed server in the sense of multiple IP addresses on a single NIC and because my HH only "discovers" one of the IP addresses, incoming requests to the other addresses ("devices") don't get serviced. (my Vigor 2600 handles all of this with a minimum of configuration effort, one table) I would like to put the HH in to get a single platform for VOIP, Wireless and local ethernet network (I am using BT BB services) but not sure if the configuration hassle is worth it. (even for a second phone line for free evening and weekend calls!) Can anyone clarify what features are enabled in which firmware and whether these are accessible through the web interface or the telnet interface and whether I need to set up a Superuser to get access? Regards |

Hi guys....
Simple question im sure - Im trying to flash my 6.1.1.R HH with the 7g drivers. Im following Zeniths step by step - and all goes well until the Software tries to put the router into 'Upgrade Mode'. The router seems to switch off (a small click and the lights go off) then the progress bar slowly creeps to 100...then the router turns itself back on (lights back on as initialising and small click) and the Upgrade Software reports The wizard was unable to...... The device is not responding during discovery Ive tried a fair few times and keep getting the same message. (Ive packet captured the process...seems after logon and discovery my computer is sending a single packet over and over with no reply - until it seemingly times out and loses connectivity due to the hardware reset) Any help greatly appreciated! nn |
