Hi Everyone. We represent a blog in Barbados which is committed to exposing corruption. A member of your forum commented on our blog and advise us that we should start a thread in your forum to see if any member of Sream can help us in Barbados with a matter which you have experienced yourselves. For several weeks the company Opera Telecom Barbados has been advertising a game of chance on TV and newspaper and try as we might to find out the winners etc we have been unsucesssful. The name Gary Corbett keeps cropping up as well. We will read the many posts which you have here but in the meantime if someone who is knowledgeable about the company can provide feedback relevant to our problem we would appreciate.

6. To take part you call the service and you are asked to select a song from menu of 10 chosen tracks. You will then be prompted to leave a recording of yourself singing along to the backing track of your choice.

Once you have left a recording you will get a unique reference number. This can then be entered into the Caribbean Phone Idol competition.

A panel of judges selected from the supporting TV, Radio and Print groups will select the final 10 best singers and the 10 worst singers.

The 10 finalists will then be put to a public vote and the winner will be announced on TV.

@Barbados may be you should ask the "TV, Radio and Print groups" if they really are "supporting" this.

A member of the public complained about an unsolicited text message
which invited them to call a premium rate number in order to obtain
ringtones and logos for their mobile phone. The promotional text
message failed to provide sufficient pricing information as a “?” symbol
replaced the required “£” symbol, while the description of the service
as lasting for three minutes was not accurate as callers could browse
through the service and stay connected for a longer duration.
Company identity/contact details were also omitted (3.4.2 and 3.5
eighth edition).
In addition, the text message incorrectly suggested that recipients
would receive a “free” ringtone if they called the premium rate number
(3.8 eighth edition). Call revenues were requested (5.2.3 eighth edition).
Investigation and Decision
Tis Tis Ltd did not dispute that call costs had not been sufficiently
prominent nor that company contact details had been omitted, stating
that this had been due to an error on their part.
They disputed that the word “free” had been used incorrectly, claiming
that the ringtone made available to callers was free of charge and that it
was provided in addition to those which were offered by the service.
The requested information was supplied.
The Committee upheld breaches of paragraphs 3.4.2, 3.5 and 3.8 of the
eighth edition of the ICSTIS Code of Practice. Tis Tis Ltd were fined
£400 and instructed to obtain copy advice for all future services and
promotional material for a period of six months.

"Well very interesting news to hear this. I was the Technical Director when contactbox opened a few years back. It was a great concept at the time, and we did very well.
However the Managing Director (Gary Corbet) wanted Netvision to focus on it's porn industry and dating sites, as well as develop it premium rate phones services (and try and avoid as much tax as possible..worryingly), at which point I felt it was time to leave the company and setup Vispa.
I understand that Gary is now overseas running Netvision from Cyprus (where he was born) and http://www.netvision.uk.com/ still works, but hardly updated. I also know they have since launched www.operatelecom.co.uk and that's on there ISPTAG and DNS servers.

It seems that 02 & Tanla Mobile have joined forces in a joint venture, which bring back memories of another a few years ago with B4U & Dialogue Comms.Tanla Mobile have had 4 Icstis adjudications in 2007 and there is 1 outstanding. There are many posts on forums about scams including unsolicited reverse bill texts sent by Tanla Mobile yet it seems they have been granted 'ACCREDITED PAYMENT STATUS', God help us all.
