News! Microsoft re-releases XP SP3

Microsoft has re-released Windows XP Service Pack 3 after withdrawing it last week.

Now available from windows update, Microsoft download center and as an iso cd image.

The iso is bigger than the network install from the download center which is bigger than the windows update version. Why? We don't know.

No news on the Vista service pack.

Tried it, bluescreened after restart, some errors about ACPI and bios updates, luckily had a system backup as I couldn't even get it started in safe mode either, quite a few of my mates have had drastic errors and had to format, ah the smuggness of some one who backed up .

PC only 12 months old new build at the time with up to date kit.

Safety, safety, safety is the by word here, system backup not system restore point.

Phew back to bed after completing download and instal starting at 3.30. Officially download and instal is supposed to take half an hour. There was a gap when I was away from computer and installation put on hold awaiting endorsement of an authority screen.

Truly a massive service pack - surely a new (free) programme would be the better option!!!!!

Fingers crossed all seems well

BTW anyone remember the versions of Windows 98 were the opening screening proudly displayed the service pack version you were using - reckon I deserve such a screen for XP after this marathon.

Not sure about SP3 Since install which did take ages. I can't have Style XP. It just will not enable, even after update!

Anyone know what, if anything, it fixes or if it makes any real improvements ?

Well i found this on the net.....

"Deploying Windows XP SP3
Windows XP SP3 will be available through Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center. The service
pack will also be available to Volume License customers, TechNet subscribers, and MSDN® subscribers.
Through Windows Update, the download size varies, but it is typically 70 megabytes (MB), depending on the
computer’s configuration. Through the Download Center, the download size is approximately 580 MB.
Fundamentally, deploying Windows XP SP3 works the same as deploying SP1 and SP2 for Windows XP:
 SP3 is cumulative, so users can install SP3 on top of Windows XP SP1 or SP2.
 Windows XP SP3 supports the same languages as Windows XP did in its initial release.
 You can run the SP3 update package on any edition of Windows XP SP1 or SP2. For example, you can
run the SP3 update package on a computer running the Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP1. The
exceptions are Embedded editions for XP.
 Tools and guidance for system administrators have not fundamentally changed from Windows XP SP2.
For comprehensive information, visit the Deploy Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Service
Pack 2 Deployment Information sites on Microsoft TechNet.
 You can deploy SP3 using Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003, Microsoft System Center
Configuration Manager 2007, or third-party solutions. The process has not fundamentally changed.
Windows XP SP3 is for x86 editions of Windows XP only. The x64 editions of Windows XP were serviced by
Windows Server 2003 SP2. For additional information, go to Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2."

hope this helps anyone one else with 64bit xp

News! Re: Microsoft re-releases XP SP3

“Microsoft is committed to providing quality products to customers. As part of this commitment, we would like to remind you that Windows XP service pack three will be released to Automatic Updates shortly,”
Now I'm really confused...
