Users running amd processors are finding that Service Pack 3 for XP causes a reboot cycle.
The only way out of this is to boot into safe mode & uninstall SP3. |

Apparently it's to do with lazy oem manufacturers rather than Microsoft.

Did you install XP yourself or still with the manufacturers install/restore ?

Helps confirm the theory it's an oem problem.

I slipstreamed SP3 into my XP installation disc & did fresh installs on both my comps, both work fine & both are several years old now. Home built one running an Athlon xp1800 & the other an Athlon xp2600. No probs at all.

It's actually being discussed (link Below) with some fixes, for people having problems.
Mine was/is the ACPI error so not going to bother with SP3 until official fix is out. http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/showpost.aspx?pageindex=5&siteid=17&postid=3316561 &sb=0&d=1&at=7&ft=11&tf=0&pageid=5 |

Did the sp3 via Windows Update on two different PCs. Both Intel I think. One a Fujitsu (XP home) and one a HP e-pc (XP Pro). Both around 5 years old. Worked fine - but allow an hour or so. For ages it looks like nothing is happening - so be patient!
No difference at all to speed, appearance or anything else. |

It's working perfectly on our AMD system, no issues with it at all.

Behemoth,
Did you roll your own XP, or using original oem install? |
