Default Broadband speeds - tracing and significance of results

In lodging a complaint to Virgin net I was asked to do a route tracing. Here are the results. Are they good or bad and do they explain the 526kbs download and 380 upload with ping of 52?

Tracing route to www.bbc.net.uk [212.58.251.208]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms www.routerlogin.com [192.168.0.1]
2 45 ms 35 ms 35 ms leed-bam-1.inet.ntl.com [194.145.148.68]
3 34 ms 34 ms 34 ms leed-t3core-1a-ge-112-0.inet.ntl.com [80.0.241.6
9]
4 62 ms 34 ms 35 ms lee-bb-a-so-230-0.inet.ntl.com [213.105.175.65]

5 40 ms 40 ms 40 ms pop-bb-b-as1-0.inet.ntl.com [62.253.185.238]
6 40 ms 50 ms 44 ms tele-ic-2-as0-0.inet.ntl.com [62.253.184.6]
7 40 ms 40 ms 39 ms ntl-ge2-8.prt0.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.239.217]
8 39 ms 42 ms 40 ms 212.58.238.153
9 40 ms 39 ms 41 ms 212.58.239.62
10 40 ms 40 ms 41 ms www6.telhc.bbc.co.uk [212.58.251.208]

Trace complete.

Found the Virgin instructions on how to complete the test very helpful:-

How to run a trace route.

Just follow these simple steps to get the "traceroute" information we need. It involves finding out some information first, then copying and pasting it into your 'Contact Us' form. Here's how it's done...

Tip: We'll need you to do it 3 times so that we have accurate information.

First, click 'Start' at the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. (Or if you use Windows Vista, click the round 'Windows' button on your toolbar.)
The Start menu will pop up - click 'Run'.
You'll see 'Open' with a white box next to it - type cmd in the box and press enter.
Now, a new window will pop up with a black background. Simply type tracert www.bbc.co.uk and press enter.
You'll see lots of numbers and data appear on the screen. It'll take a minute or so to stop.
To copy it into your form, first click the little blue-and-black symbol at the top left-hand corner of the black screen.
A menu will pop up - choose 'Edit' and then 'Mark'.
Next, highlight the results by pressing and holding your left-hand mouse button and highlighting the stuff you want to copy - then press enter to copy it.
Now, go back to the 'Contact Us' form and paste the information into the 'traceroute' box.

And that's it! You're all done.

Damn it did not say repeat the test three times on the submit information box!!!!

.... but not a bad fourteen thousandth post for someone who is not a techy guru
