Default Win 7 - Admin Issues

Hi

I need help,

I am the administrator on my PC - I am trying to modify a few file in a certain folders but it does allow me to access it as I keep getting the message attached – I have tried different setting on user accounts but to no avail. Went I right click the file it does not even show “run as administrator”

Any ideas how to fix this it sending me mad!?

Thanks,

Chris

Hiya.

Is this PC a home PC or works PC.

Are you the only user that has an account on this PC. I am the only user on mine and have no probs.

Not knowing what type of file extension it is in the error message, its hard to say, I assume it is an .avi file from the partial message text.

Run as Administrator does not show by right clicking on an avi file. I believe it only shows for Shortcuts and .exe files and/or possibly some others.

Right click on any random .exe or shortcut and see if the Run as Administrator is present.

What are you actually trying to do with this file.

A simple way to see if you are the Admin, is to click on the Start button and type in CMD into the search box, OK it.

In the Dos window that opens, at the very top on the title bar, it should say....

Administrator: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe or something like that, if it has no Administrator on the title bar, you arent Admin, lol.

I have a few ideas in mind, which shouldnt really be necessary, but will wait for your response on the above first. :)

You may want to google "take ownership windows 7"

You can do it manually or add a shell extension so you can just right click on a file.

To delete some files you may need to take ownership or give yourself full control of the folder containing the file but take care, there is a reason you are blocked from modifying/deleting certain files & folders.
